Meng Ning couldn't sit still at home. She urgently asked over the phone, "Huan Huan, do you know anyone at the police station?"
"No, I really don't, Ning Bao. You can rest assured..." Qin Huan thought about Meng Ning not knowing Fu Tingxiu's identity and now him being taken away by the police. Meng Ning must be worried. "Alright, Ning Bao, you go home first. I'll make a call and see if anyone is familiar with the police."
Qin Huan's actions were just to delay Meng Ning for now, to prevent her from worrying.
"Okay, hurry and make the call. I'll wait for your phone call."
Meng Ning hung up the phone. She was worried about Fu Tingxiu and drove to the police station. Even if she couldn't do anything, she had to go to the station to check.
Meng Ning arrived at the entrance of the police station. As soon as she got out of the car, she saw Gu Changming getting out of another car.
"Gu Changming, you despicable scum!" Meng Ning shouted at Gu Changming, "Withdraw your lawsuit immediately."
"Meng Ning, I've already warned your husband. It's his refusal to plead that led to this. Now we live in a society governed by law, and I'm just protecting my rights legally. This is legitimate," Gu Changming sneered. "Everyone has to pay for their actions."
"Why are you so shameless?" Meng Ning's emotions were getting out of control. "Withdraw your lawsuit, and I'll compensate you with any amount of money you want."
"Meng Ning, you know what I want is not money." Gu Changming chuckled coldly, hands in his pockets. "You know what I want."
Meng Ning trembled with anger. Was this really the Gu Changming she knew? She gritted her teeth. "You're dreaming."
Gu Changming sneered and approached Meng Ning. "If you want me to withdraw the lawsuit, there's one way. Your husband kneels down and apologizes to me, admitting he married a woman of low morals."
"Gu Changming, you bastard!" Meng Ning was so angry she slapped Gu Changming across the face.
Gu Changming instantly became furious, licking his lips where she had slapped him. "Looks like I'll need to re-examine my injuries. I'll count this slap on your husband's head. A year or so in prison should be appropriate."
Hearing that Fu Tingxiu might go to prison, Meng Ning panicked. Even though she hated Gu Changming, she had to suppress her anger.
"How much money? How much do you want to withdraw the lawsuit?" Meng Ning suppressed her anger and said, "Gu Changming, just because you've read a few law books, you think highly of yourself. If you don't withdraw the lawsuit, I'll find a better lawyer and fight you to the end."
There was no way she would yield to Gu Changming's demands.
Gu Changming sneered, "Meng Ning, do you have the money, time, and energy to drag this out with me? As long as I drag this lawsuit, your husband will stay inside for a few years. He stays in as long as the case is unresolved. I'm in no rush. I have all the time to waste with you. This is the price you pay for deceiving me all those years ago."
Gu Changming's shamelessness shattered Meng Ning's perception of him.
To ensure Fu Tingxiu's safety, Meng Ning restrained herself and explained, "I have never deceived you. Back then, I was not involved with two people at once. You were the one who left first, Gu Changming. Why are you taking out your anger on innocent people? Our past has nothing to do with Fu Tingxiu. Why involve him? If you have any grievances, direct them at me and spare him."
Gu Changming looked at Meng Ning with cold-blooded eyes. The more she defended Fu Tingxiu and worried about him, the more his anger flared.
"Meng Ning, you have no shame. You still shamelessly deny it now? Do you want me to expose what you did in university?" Gu Changming mocked, "Don't pretend to be innocent in front of me."
Meng Ning felt bewildered. What exactly had she done in university to make Gu Changming so angry? Had she really forgotten something?
