Outside the window came the sound
of a tree branch breakin1g, bringing
Meng Ning and Fu Tingxiu back to
their senses. Fu Tingxiuquickly got
up, and Meng Ning alsosat up,
creating a subtle shift in the
atmosphere between them.
Fu Tingxiu touched his lips, cleared
his throat uncomfortably, and asked,
"Why are you awake?"
The deadlock broke. Meng Ning
lowered her head, adjusted her hair,
and said, "I was thirsty, so l came out
to get some water."
Her heart raced, her cheeks slightly
flushed. She dared not meet Fu
Tingxiu's gaze and kepther head
down.
"Oh, let me pour you some." Fu
Tingxiu got up, turned on the light,
poured water for Meng Ning, and
handed it to her.
Meng Ning took it with a quick
"Thank you." She hurriedly drank to
calm herself down, and before she
knew it, the glass was empty.
"Should I pour you more?"
Fu Tingxiu's magnetic voice sounded
from above. Meng Ning instinctively
looked up, meeting his deep eyes,
her heartbeat seeming to slow down.
Facing such a handsome man in the
middle of the night, who could resist?
Fu Tingxiu wore loose pajamas,
exuding an air of nobility, his bronze
skin hinting at the chest muscles
vaguely visible from his neckline..
Everything about him was so
enticing.
Meng Ning realized inappropriate
images were surfacing in her mind
again and quickly regained her
composure. She stood up hastily,
pointing to the bedroom door with
her head down nervoussly,"I'm not
thirsty anymore. Thank you. 'l go
back to sleep."
Meng Ning hurried back to her room,
closing the door behind her.
Watching her hurried departure, Fu
Tingxiu couldn't help but smile faintly.
He touched his lips unconsciously;
her taste was sweet and soft..
Indeed, he felt a bit dIry in his mouth.
Fu Tingxiu licked his lips, picked up
the glass Meng Ning had just used,
and walked to the water dispenser to
pour himself a glass of water.
Inside the room, Meng Ning patted
her flushed face. The images of their
kiss kept playing in her mind, and she
struggled to calm down. It was her
first kiss.
Since getting married, Fu Tingxiu had
been busy with work, and they had
always respected each other's space.
They had never had such intimate
contact before.
Meng Ning couldn't sleep. She tossed
and turned, and every time she
closed her eyes, Fu Tingxiu's image
appeared in her mind.
"This is really troublesome." Meng
Ning muttered as she stared at the
ceiling. She pulled the blanket over
her head, counted sheep to calm
herself, and eventuall/ fell asleep.
That night, she had a vivid and
passionate dream that felt incredibly
real, as if it had actuallly happened.
The man's heavy breathing in her ear
was so clear..
The next day.
Meng Ning woke up late. By the time she woke up, it was already past nine o'clock. Glancing at the time, she hurriedly washed up, changed clothes, and walked out of the bedroom, only to find someone sitting on the living room sofa.
Meng Ning was puzzled. "Aren't you supposed to be at work today? Normally you would have left by this time," she said, referring to Fu Tingxiu.
Seeing Fu Tingxiu, she couldn't help but recall the kiss from last night and the passionate dream. She felt a bit embarrassed.
"Today is Saturday," Fu Tingxiu said, with a laptop on his lap. "I bought breakfast, it's still hot. Have it while it's warm."
Meng Ning glanced at the table, where there were fried dough sticks, soy milk, and eggs neatly arranged.
"Have you eaten?" she asked.
"Yeah, I've eaten," Fu Tingxiu replied. "Since it's rare for me to have a day off, I'll accompany you to the night market tonight. I want to get to know you better."
"Huh?" Meng Ning was slightly surprised.
Fu Tingxiu asked, "Is there any inconvenience?"
"No," Meng Ning nodded somewhat dazedly. "Sure, that sounds good."
She just hadn't expected Fu Tingxiu, a white-collar worker at a big company, to be willing to go to a street market with her.
"Go ahead and eat," Fu Tingxiu said, then lowered his head to continue with what he was doing.
Meng Ning glanced at Fu Tingxiu, realizing how hard it must be even for someone at a big company to have time off, with work that never seems to end, even on holidays.
Meng Ning sat down to eat breakfast while Fu Tingxiu worked nearby. The home was quiet, neither of them disturbing the other, yet it didn't feel awkward.
At that moment, the doorbell rang.
Meng Ning curiously looked towards the door, about to get up to open it, but Fu Tingxiu stood up and said, "You eat. I'll go get the door."
Putting down his laptop, Fu Tingxiu got up to answer the door, while Meng Ning remained seated at the dining table, not moving.
Fu Ting Xiu had just bought this house and moved in not long ago, and not many people knew the address. When he heard the doorbell, he had a rough idea of who it might be.
Sure enough, when Fu Tingxiu opened the door, an elegant lady stood there with a warm smile, arms open wide. "Surprise, son! I've come to see my daughter-in-law. Where is she?"
