Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Hand in Hand, Walking Together

The majority of the zombies inside the supermarket had been run over and killed.

As soon as Zhang Ye entered, he immediately saw the numerous bodies under the front of the car.

During the day, 003 and 004 had made quite a commotion while working, causing almost all the zombies inside to gather at the entrance, which led to this batch of mass fatalities.

003's legs had been crushed, leaving only the upper half of its body still struggling, seemingly trying to crawl out from under the tires.

The head of 004 had become a smashed watermelon.

"Sigh."

"No saving that."

Zhang Ye shook his head, stood up, and looked at the cracked windshield in front of him.

He had pretty much seen all the zombies in the supermarket during the day, and since there hadn't been any alerts, there definitely weren't any special staff members required by the mission.

Therefore, the only possibility left was the passengers in this car.

The figure in the driver's seat didn't move at all.

Most likely dead.

The alarm had stopped, and it was quiet all around, but he couldn't shake the feeling that he heard something.

"Wu wu..."

It seemed like someone was crying.

The low, lengthy sound echoed in the darkness.

As if a ghoul might pounce from behind any minute.

Moved by a sense of alertness, 010, who had been foolishly standing at the entrance, immediately stood in front of Zhang Ye, its thick arms ready to push someone away.

Hearing sobbing in the middle of the night, in a horror scene filled with bodies, truly tested his psychological limits.

Could it be that the so-called special staff member was actually some indescribable entity?

Just then, a shriek suddenly pierced the silence!

"Ahhh!"

The figure in the driver's seat suddenly moved!

Then came the urgent sound of someone banging on the car door from inside.

There was definitely something inside the car!

Zhang Ye's eyebrows tightened, and he quickly backed away a few steps. The car door in front of him had already been knocked open!

A gory male corpse suddenly tumbled out!

"Damn!"

Despite being prepared, his heart still skipped a beat.

Was this the special staff member?

But quickly, another figure rushed out from inside.

She had disheveled hair, held a wrench, and with a face smeared in blood like some fierce ghost, she pounced on the male corpse, rapidly turning the body into a bloody pulp.

Zhang Ye was dumbstruck watching from the side!

Such a ferocious woman...

Is she human?

Could she already be infected by the virus?

The light was too dim to see the woman's face clearly, but there seemed to be no wounds on her body.

But it looked like even if she wasn't infected, she was probably mad.

Mad people are much scarier than zombies.

He immediately heightened his alertness, slowly retreating with his body, ready to leave this peril-fraught supermarket.

Forget about the damn mission!

His own life mattered the most!

A madwoman with bloodshot eyes wouldn't care whether what's in front of her was a human or a zombie.

In this state of irrationality or possible infection, even if she were the special staff member, Zhang Ye had no intention of approaching her to recruit.

Wasn't that clearly a joke with his own life?

The system didn't say it was a madwoman!

But just then, the woman suddenly lifted her head and, with a scream, charged straight at Zhang Ye, wrench in hand.

"Lady!"

"I'm just passing by! Just passing through!"

Zhang Ye yelled, though his body had already hidden behind the towering 010, and quickly instructed the other employees who were still on the steps to come inside.

"Clang!"

The wrench struck hard against 010's head.

A piece of the skull instantly caved in.

Watching from behind, Zhang Ye was terrified—the woman had definitely lost her mind, her blows were too ruthless!

The attacker seemed somewhat surprised.

The wrench paused for a moment.

Just then, 010 suddenly lifted its arms and then forcefully pushed her on the shoulder!

"Ouch!"

A cry of pain, and the woman sat down on the ground.

This squat seemed to snap her out of it in an instant, and as she looked at the sunken, rotten face before her, she couldn't hold back any longer.

"Waaaah!"

"I don't want to die yet!"

"Save me, somebody save me!"

The woman cried her eyes out, which made Zhang Ye, who had stealthily reached out with his stun baton to shock her, hesitate.

She no longer seemed like a lunatic.

The opportunity had come!

He stepped forward and grabbed her arm fiercely.

But he didn't hear any mission completion prompt in his ears.

At the same time, the rustling noise outside suddenly became dense, the sound of zombies dragging their feet on the ground.

Not good, the horde was already on its way!

But the mission—

Forget it, get her back first!

Zhang Ye's heart sank, and he immediately rushed up to cover the woman's mouth:

"Stop crying!"

"Cry any more and they'll eat you!"

The woman instantly fell silent, her face pleading as she looked at him.

The noise outside grew louder.

The dragging footsteps sounded terrifying in the darkness of the night.

We need to get out of here fast!

Zhang Ye thrust the wrench into the woman's hand, issuing a stern instruction:

"Follow me, got it?"

"Don't leave my side."

"Otherwise, if something happens, don't expect me to save you, understand?"

He had already figured it out in a matter of seconds: mission failure was mission failure, he couldn't risk his own life.

The woman nodded frantically and got up from the ground.

"Don't worry, I'll definitely listen to you."

"I won't hold you back."

She looked at Zhang Ye with a hint of curiosity in her eyes.

As if wanting to ask how to escape from so many zombies outside.

Truth be told, Zhang Ye didn't know either.

Same as on the way over?

Have those clueless employees push with their hands?

But just looking outside, his plan immediately fell through.

There were at least a hundred zombies closing in.

The dense figures nearly filled up the supermarket's front steps and the street, merging into an impenetrable wall of bodies.

The six figures in front kept repeating the same motion.

Retract arms, push out.

Retract arms, push out.

At first glance, you might think it was an old man practicing Tai Chi in the park.

They could no longer hold back their former companions.

"Eeeaahh!"

A zombie came up the steps without any hesitation and charged straight at Zhang Ye, only to fall down to a crackling sound of electricity.

Another number appeared on the employee roster.

011.

But Zhang Ye showed no sign of excitement.

What use was adding another person to the employee list at this time?

Could he possibly take down those hundred or so zombies one by one?

Figuring out an escape plan was the real issue.

But with so many zombies crowding the entrance and about to come up, he didn't have an iron shirt or a protective "Golden Bell Shield" to fend off the enemies' teeth and claws.

Wait!

Golden Bell Shield?

A sudden insight flashed through Zhang Ye's mind, and he hastily called back those six Tai Chi-looking idiots at the entrance. Under the horror-stricken gaze of the woman, they formed a circle around the two of them.

The night was as dark as ink.

Countless figures poured into the supermarket.

In the dense tide of corpses, a void suddenly appeared.

Eight zombies, of varying heights, joined hands and shoulders, moving slowly out of the supermarket in an extremely bizarre posture.
