Atop the Ice and Snow Great Wall, the Thunder Beast occasionally let out moos akin to those of a cow, other than that, there was nothing but the howling of the blizzard.
Maolai wiped the condensation from the carriage window and looked outside; beyond the ramparts of ice and snow, he couldn't make out any of the Snowfield's scenery.
This left Maolai feeling somewhat disappointed, as he had wanted to catch a glimpse of the Snow Ghosts on the Snowfield.
As a serf of Red Castle, Maolai had spent his whole life in the sweltering plantations, busy with farming every day. He was unfamiliar with the bitterness of severe cold, nor had he ever seen the much-feared Snow Ghosts; his world was confined to the modest manor.
He thought he would spend his whole life living on the manor.
But then one day, unexpectedly, he and a group of young men and women from the manor were selected and presented to the newly risen Baron Thunderflame.
