The good news is that this defensive action seems to be an independent move, meaning that even if the character is in the middle of an attacking action, the defense can still be effective.
But the bad news is also this!
Zhuge Jun had initially thought the defense, like in other games, would involve using a weapon or an off-hand shield.
So according to the common game settings, defensive actions and attacking actions could not be performed at the same time; one couldn't defend while attacking, or attack while defending. Of course, exceptions aside, such as special routines like shield pokes.
In some games where shields do not exist, players can use the weapons in their hands to perform defensive actions.
However, "Blood of Lies" is slightly odd in that its defensive action is merely placing the puppet prosthesis of the left hand in front of oneself, nothing more!
