Watching the drone fly away, 2810 spat fiercely on the ground.
"Shit, that damn Cop Gang's drone has actually come to the Queens District. Didn't they used to ignore this place?"
But it made him incredibly relieved about his choice; it seemed that this time BCPD was really going to get tough with the gangs, not just messing around with him.
Just then, a company message popped up—it was from United Fruit, instructing him to head to a designated location for work.
"Seriously? Just started the job and already working? Are they that short-staffed?"
Although he thought this, he still set off immediately. It was hard enough to find this job; he didn't want to lose it.
However, as 2810 followed the coordinates, something felt off. Why did it seem like he was heading towards the worst part of the poor district?
When he took the company uniform delivered by a hover car from his colleague, and saw the long line of homeless and poor people waiting, he realized that his task for the day was to distribute food.
Portions of high-quality food, rich in vitamins, carbohydrates, and protein, were handed out. Watching the homeless devour it, 2810 was green with envy; he had never eaten such food himself!
2810 secretly opened a lunch box, snatched a piece of meat, and stuffed it into his mouth. But before he had chewed a few bites, a penalty notification appeared on the system screen.
"Stop envying, our staff meal today is better than this," said a red-haired woman next to him, who was scanning homeless people and recording their personal information.
Her most distinctive feature was the beauty marks exposed on her chest and near the corner of her mouth.
"Really?" 2810 looked at her in surprise. Our company actually serves staff meals? Is this the same United Fruit known for its ruthless business practices?
"Let me tell you something. United Fruit is now owned by Borrow King. As a ruler, besides BCPD's enforcement power, he also firmly controls the food supply," she shrugged.
"Borrow King is awesome, huh? But what's he doing giving away free food?" 2810 couldn't understand his new boss's logic.
"Didn't you see the recent interview? He said he's been hungry before, and it's a horrible feeling, so he won't allow anyone in the Metropolis to go hungry."
"Psh, I didn't expect our Borrow King to be such a virtuous bitch. Damn, these homeless people are even considered humans? Aren't they all just a bunch of drug-addled waste? Wouldn't it be better if they all starved to death?"
2810 had barely finished laughing when he felt hostile glares. The queueing homeless folks glared at him furiously; if he weren't handing out food, they might have thrown punches.
"What the fuck?!" 2810 reflexively wanted to activate his Combat Prosthesis and blast them.
But as he reached for it, he quickly realized he wasn't in the gang world anymore; he was at work, and they wouldn't dare to hit him, especially with United Fruit's security members nearby.
He hastily bowed his head to continue serving food, no longer speaking. "Damn, Borrow King is quite popular now; seems I'll have to watch my words from now on."
After feeling the hostile stares dissipate, he sighed in relief and turned to the woman beside him, saying, "Continuing with such distribution, isn't Borrow King going to go broke? These organic foods are damn expensive, and I even saw luxury items like fruits in there?"
"He can't go broke. Food itself isn't expensive. The normal food is so expensive because monopolizing companies want to sell at high prices and engage in hunger marketing," she explained.
Red-haired woman next to him spoke, "You could check out the food store, the price of food keeps dropping lately, even nutritional paste isn't selling anymore."
2810 glanced at the online prices and found that, just as the other had thought, the prices of various foods had indeed fallen, and not just food, but even water and electricity bills had plunged dramatically, reducing the cost of living by a whole lot.
Calculating his salary and previous expenses, 2810 suddenly could understand why whenever he mentioned Sun Jack, so many people glared at him.
From now on, he was going to be a hardcore fan of Sun Jack himself, and anyone who spoke poorly of him was asking for trouble!
Immediately afterward, he opened Utopia Security's livestream and purchased a Sun Jack collectible to support him both spiritually and materially.
Just as he completed the order, he saw a figure of Sun Jack flying through the sky, and he waved and whistled loudly at him.
The red-haired woman beside him screamed excitedly, a stark contrast to her earlier calm demeanor, and she yelled excitedly at the sky, "Yo! Sun Jack! I love you! I've broken two of your dick molds!!"
"What? Broke two? Are you made of iron or steel down there?" 2810 looked at her with surprise.
Looking at the woman as Sun Jack flew away, she gave him a contemptuous glance, "Grinder made, try it out if you dare, it'll grind you to bits!"
"Sure, let's give it a go, I'm not scared of you. Let's add each other as friends first, come over to my place after work."
While adding him as a friend, the woman said, "By the way, now that you have a job, remember to join the Metropolis union."
"Union? What kind of organization is that?"
"It's a mutual aid association. If you encounter problems at work, you can band together and submit suggestions to the labor bureau. Borrow King has delegated a small part of the supervisory authority to us working dogs."
Just as she finished speaking, she saw another Sun Jack flying past in the sky and excitedly waved again.
"Ah, I really want him to fuck me, he's so hot." As she watched Sun Jack's retreating figure, the woman spoke with longing.
"That's nothing, during the last company battle, so many Sun Jacks died, just pick one up and take him home to play." 2810 casually suggested while delivering food.
"Come on, it's not that easy," the red-haired woman scoffed at him.
"Why not, I've seen it before, someone secretly took away a Borrow King's body stuck on a steel rebar, and they didn't look like they were from Borrow King Company."
Just as he finished saying this, a message popped up right in front of him. "Based on saliva DNA analysis, you spat on Standing Road, fine of 10 dog B, please make payment at your earliest convenience."
"Damn, murders used to go unnoticed, but now they fine me for spitting, isn't Borrow King being a bit too overbearing?" 2810 complained continually, but eventually, he paid the fine.
Just as he deleted the fine notification, he saw a fully prosthetic cyborg standing in front of him, his face had no eyes, only a row of display screens.
"Answer me, where did you see Sun Jack? When? How many people were with him? What were they wearing, and what kind of transport were they using?"
