Many people, when zoos come to mind, likely conjure up images of lions, zebras, hippos, giraffes, kangaroos, koalas, and penguins—foreign animals, first and foremost.
It's not that showcasing foreign animals is wrong, but before that, native animals should be properly displayed.
Take the red panda, for example, many visitors initially didn't know them and mistook them for raccoons, which is actually quite a frightening thing.
And then there's the snow leopard, before any promotion many visitors just thought they were leopards with white fur, nothing special; Pallas's cats are just cats with somewhat fatter faces and strange looks; the Chinese mountain cat is just a more ferocious-looking house cat; as for green peafowl and blue peafowl, they seemed to have no significant difference.
