Although Red Bean had an ultrasound at the beginning, it could only confirm whether she was pregnant or not; the exact number of cubs she was carrying couldn't be determined.
The ultrasound was done to determine whether it was a true pregnancy or a pseudo-pregnancy. Previously at the Panda Base, a female panda, because she was fond of the cool air-conditioning, would have a pseudo-pregnancy every summer so she could stay inside and not go out, comfortably enjoying the air-conditioning, which was quite a helpless situation.
After watching Red Bean nurse the two cubs for a long time, and seeing the cubs quiet down to sleep and rest, everyone concluded there probably weren't any more.
