Luckily, the shuttle could be mounted in the scout ship's external pod, so there was no need to purchase a ship slot. It could be used for commuting to and from work, hauling cargo, picking up girls, or hitting on women.
Although the scout ship had arrived at the dock, it was essentially an empty hull. All the other electronic equipment, weapon systems, fuel, ammunition, star map, license... all these things needed to be assembled, or there wouldn't be enough time.
