It was a laugh of extreme helplessness, like holding in a fart only to let it rip when taking off your pants or like when you're on the cusp of clearing the last level of a magic circle and some distant little nephew decides it's the perfect time to gnaw through your power cord. Or like giving it your all and then getting killed by someone with three swings of a golf club—a type of mental derangement.
Couldn't help chuckling.
