The wind was gentle, the sun was warm, the moon shone bright, and stars were sparse, with meat and wine aplenty, joy abounded.
But none of that had anything to do with the Reserve Army.
The so-called Reserve Army, if put nicely, was "ready to address any military oversight, filling in where neglect may lie." In reality, they were separate from the Imperial Forest Army, responsible for the arduous tasks of cleaning up battlefields and boiling water for cooking. Their status was so low that at one point, they even surpassed the "Third-class Horse Smoothers" and belonged to the maggot level of the food chain.
Of course, this assignment was definitely better than being stuck at a fixed post, because, after all, they could use the toilet indoors and didn't have to take care of their business on the spot in emergencies—there were some benefits.
