Chapter 18 - 72

  Chapter 72 A Funeral

  The next morning.

A beam of warm sunlight slowly shone on the floor of the bedroom.

It also dispelled the black mist that had not yet dissipated in the air.

The light seemed to pierce through an invisible barrier.

Waves of noisy city sounds from outside the window gradually reached Rorschach's ears.

  He opened his eyes blearily.

  "hiss--"

Rorschach, who was not yet fully awake, took a deep breath.

He raised his palm with a frown.

Several fingertips pressed hard on the temples.

Trying to ease the tingling sensation coming from deep inside my brain.

  Not long after.

  Rorschach, grinning, finally woke up.

He slowly stood up and sat cross-legged on the bed.

Rorschach showed a puzzled expression on his face and muttered to himself:

"Did I catch a cold? Can't my current physical condition resist those common minor illnesses?"

With helplessness in his eyes, Rorschach jumped off the bed.

He walked quickly to the desk.

He reached out and dug out a bottle of painkillers that had not yet expired from a pile of miscellaneous items.

  Rorschach doesn't even need water.

I just threw a few painkillers into my mouth, chewed them dry, and tried hard to swallow them.

After a few minutes, it seemed that the medicine had taken effect.

The tingling sensation deep in Rorschach's brain gradually subsided.

  Eventually it disappeared.

  "call--"

Rorschach, who had barely recovered, let out a breath slowly.

Even the corners of his mouth pulled out a faint smile.

He stood there and stretched his body.

Wait until your back starts to sweat slightly.

Rorschach turned and walked out of the bedroom.

At this moment, the gradually rising light shines through the kitchen glass onto the living room floor.

Right above the sofa in the living room.

My aunt, who had changed into a black dress, was looking at the mirror.

She kept taking care of her short hair.

  She heard the door open.

Subconsciously, she raised her face which was covered with the hydrating mask.

Then, the aunt with a slightly round chin stared at Rorschach, who was standing there and twisting his neck.

  I couldn't help but frown.

She placed the mirror on her knees, waved the comb in her other hand, and said in a raised voice:

"You little brat, it's already so late, why are you just getting up? I was about to call you... why don't you go wash up?"

  Hear what my aunt said.

While exercising, Rorschach turned his head and looked at the clock hanging in the living room.

He blinked his eyes and said helplessly,

"Aunt, it's only nine o'clock. It won't waste time even if you come later..."

However, Rorschach's little complaint was heard.

  Swish!

My aunt, with a frown on her face, tore off the mask on her face.

She raised the comb in her hand with a serious expression, pointed at Rorschach and said:

"Have you forgotten all the etiquette I taught you since you were a child?"

  "This is a funeral!"

"It's still the funeral of your friend Mike's deceased brother!"

The aunt, who had always been tolerant of Rorschach's behavior, acted out of character.

Both her tone and attitude became noticeably more serious.

However, before the angry aunt could start a series of verbal attacks.

Rorschach, feeling a dull pain in the depths of his brain once again, quickly raised the French salute.

  Signal surrender and admit defeat.

He took a deep breath, looked at his aunt with a bad expression and begged for mercy:

"Aunt, I was wrong! I will go wash up right away!"

So, the tall Rorschach rushed into the bathroom like a bull.

Five minutes later, Rorschach, looking refreshed, stood in front of his aunt in a black sports suit.

The expressionless aunt dropped the comb in her hand.

She squinted her eyes and looked Rorschach up and down for a few times.

My aunt couldn't help but roll her eyes.

"Since you are growing so fast, I won't bother you about the etiquette of dressing. As for your taste in clothes, I don't even bother to care..."

  "Okay then, let's go."

My aunt stood up from the sofa swiftly.

Rorschach bent down slightly with a smile on his face.

He extended his elbow toward his aunt.

"My dear aunt, would you please go first?"

The aunt, not knowing whether to laugh or cry, held Rorschach's strong arm.

  She tilted her head back.

  He said to Rorschach earnestly:

"I'm warning you...be serious at the funeral and don't embarrass yourself. Do you understand?"

"Understood, understood! I will ensure that the task is completed!"

-

  2 p.m.

  A public cemetery in Harlem.

Brother Mike's funeral was held as scheduled.

Not many people came, they were all Mike's friends, family members, and neighbors in the community.

The tall Rorschach and his expressionless aunt stood under the shade of a tree.

At this moment, Rorschach heard the heart-wrenching cry of Mike's mother.

He looked at Big Mouth Mike not far away and tried to hold back his grief.

Constantly comforting the mother's emotional breakdown.

Rorschach took a deep breath subconsciously.

His face remained indescribably solemn from beginning to end.

  Just before the funeral began.

Rorschach learned some information from Mike.

That is, the federal government has ordered the New York Police Department, the FBI and many other departments to hastily close the case.

Whether it is the dead Jerry or the more murdered and missing children.

Everything was finally defined by a cold official document.

At the same time, as long as the families of the deceased receive compensation as humanitarian donations.

You automatically lose the right to continue investigating the truth of the case.

But due to the mental state of his mother and the financial pressure of being short of money.

Big Mouth Mike ultimately chose the unreasonable conditions of the federal government.

He was just an ordinary poor man whose family was broken up.

There is no way to struggle against the federal government...

  About half an hour later.

Accompanied by the chanting of a black priest.

The people watching the funeral said goodbye to each other and dispersed.

Rorschach and his aunt declined Mike's invitation to a family dinner.

Whether it's my aunt or Rorschach.

Mike, who looked haggard, was unwilling to hold on.

After saying goodbye to each other.

Silently, Rorschach stared at Mike's gradually hunched back.

He hugged his mother's arms tightly and let out a slow sigh.

  "well..."

At the same time, Rorschach squinted his eyes and subconsciously looked at his aunt beside him.

He hesitated for a moment, then suddenly asked:

"Aunt...Have you ever thought about leaving this damn place? I mean this country."

Perhaps Rorschach's question was too sudden.

  My aunt was slightly stunned.

She raised her slightly rounded chin.

A pair of red eyes stared at Rorschach:

"What? You feel like you've grown strong and powerful, and you're ready to abandon your aunt, right?"

Before she could finish her words, the aunt, pretending to be angry, stretched out her fingers and pinched Rorschach's muscular arm.

Rorschach felt no pain at all.

But in order to avoid further irritating my aunt.

He still forcibly changed the subject.

"Oh, Aunt, I was just asking... To make up for my mistake with words, I'll treat you to a movie and a nice dinner!"

  Rorschach said with a grin.

"You said it, but your aunt didn't force you..."

My aunt smiled and seemed to have forgotten the previous topic.

She patted Rorschach's arm and said with a smile:

"Come on, kid, I know where the most expensive restaurant in Harlem is!"
