For dinner, Shen Yanqing made glutinous rice with lotus root, sauerkraut fish, sweet and sour cabbage, and kung pao chicken.
Sangmo furrowed her brow but said nothing.
The sweet and sour cabbage was too sour, the kung pao chicken too spicy, the gluey texture of the glutinous rice with lotus root became cloying after a while; only the sauerkraut fish was somewhat acceptable.
For breakfast the next day, there was sauerkraut fish again.
The same dish appeared for lunch.
By the time dinner came, the mere sight of sauerkraut fish made Sangmo's stomach churn.
Yet seeing the eager expression on Shen Yanqing's face, she forced herself to eat a few bites.
On the third day, the sauerkraut fish was still on the table, and Sangmo finally broke down.
She found herself yearning for the cafeteria lady's robust voice.
"Master, I was wrong, please spare me! I swear, I won't breathe a word about you being the Demon Monarch!"
