After a while, we decided to return to our adventures on the road. We had already spent more than two weeks there and we did want to see more of the world after all, we can't hide forever. The villagers gave us some food to carry along the way and the three of us took off early that same day. My mood was a lot less stressful since that night, we were already in the safe zone but something kept bothering me. Now that I think of it, it seems to be a bit strange that Lily has almost everything in her bag except food and…wait.
- Hey Lily… we need money to buy food right? So do we have an infinitive amount or is it limited? I asked.
- We have two gold coins left from all the money I brought from the palace with me. She said smiling.
I don't know how to feel at that point so we don't have money and the money we've been spending was stolen from the Platinum Palace. So that means that we have to do some work on and off if we want to eat huh? I should have known this from the beginning, but what can I do to earn money while traveling? Maybe I'll just stay in a town for a few days at a time and find a part-time job then leave again? This is tricky.
- So that means we will starve right? Ed said as his ears dropped down.
- N-no, well if we can find a short-term job like Quest to do then I don't think we will starve. I replied. What Am I thinking quests? this isn't some mobile game where those things exist.
- Great idea Isa we can find a request for some in the next town. Lily said excitedly.
- That's a thing? I said, I had underestimated this world yet again huh?
- So what will we do? hunt dragons or burn goblins. Ed jumped with an enthusiastic smile.
- Sorry to break it to you but we won't be doing anything that involves weapons or dragons kids. I told them as a large town came into view below the hill.
We walked through the gate of the busy town, there were many tall buildings and markets like in the Platinum kingdom, and there were a huge amount of people in big armor carrying swords, some witches, and healers, gathering in groups of four or five and walking around the streets. So this is what a fantasy world looks like, But why do I feel like I have seen this somewhere before? So many fantasy creatures just walking around make me feel a bit overwhelmed. We continued to walk until we reached the center of the town where we bought some sandwiches. We found a bench and sat down to eat our lunch.
- Why didn't we eat the food we brought with us, we only have one gold coin now. Ed asked me as we ate.
- Those are canned food Edward we'll save them for when we don't have any money left at all. I replied, I was still thinking about how to earn some money when suddenly a piece of paper smacked right into my face.
- Ugh! What's this? I shouted as I got the piece of paper off of my face and then I noticed it was a job offer with a huge pay for 1 day.
- Wow! 1000 gold coins per day! That's the perfect job for us right now! Lily said as we examined the paper.
- This job could be unclean ya know this is too good to be true. Ed said frowning.
He had a point there isn't a description of what exactly needed to be done on the job in the paper at all all there is is the pay and address. but the deal does seem tempting.
- We could find out more and if it's not good then we can just not accept it right? So why not give it a go? I said.
- You seem more interested in the money today big sis. Ed looked at me concerned.
- It is a good chance to earn money Edy. Lily said grinning.
- Don't worry we'll be fine Ed.
So with that, we decided to give it a go and find the place at the address, We walked for a while and stopped in front of a pretty-looking house in the corner of the street. There were lots of flowers everywhere and a board on the door saying Scarlet witch
- 23/9 A2 This is the address we're looking for. I said then went over to knock on the door.
We waited for a short time then the owner of the house opened the door for us. She was a tall woman with long light green hair tied into a braid flowing down her back, wearing a long brown dress and a thin dull orange coat. Her eyes were a brilliant sunset purple.
- Um, Excuse me I found this help-wanted paper I was just wondering if it belongs to you since we wanted the job. I said handing her the paper. She looked at it and then smiled.
- Ah, yes it belongs to me, please come in. She said and then led us inside.
The interior was old but beautiful, the walls and floors were made of wood as well. A soft sense of lavender drifted softly through the air, soft light shining through the windows giving a warm feeling to the halls. We walked slowly to the reading room with the house owner.
- I'm Erica Minuette, nice to meet you. She said giving me her hand to shake.
- Isabel, glad to make your acquaintance. I replied holding her hand, we sat down and I continued.
- These are my siblings, Edward and Lilian, we want to find out more about this job you're offering. I said.
- Right! you look a bit tense but don't worry you won't have to do anything inappropriate. She said giggling.
Then she gave me a newspaper, on the front was an article, it said: " Platinum at war with Lestia, saintess is the abandoned princess?! " I didn't quite understand what was going on but before could ask Erica interrupted me.
- This article is about the saintess who just happened to cross over to our borders a few weeks ago as reports said. Erica said.
- Why do you want to look for her? I asked nervously, Lily and Ed's faces went pale expecting the worst.
- Well, as you might have guessed, the saintess is a very important figure in our world. Her safety is paramount, and many seek to harm her or use her for their gain. Erica explained, her voice calm but serious.
-So you want us to find her? Lily asked, her eyes wide with curiosity and concern.
-Not exactly. Erica shook her head. We believe the saintess is already in this town, but she remains hidden. We need to locate her because her blood is crucial for a ritual that can allow us to travel to the past. She said, her eyes searching our faces.
-Travel to the past? Ed echoed, looking bewildered.
-Yes. Erica nodded. but it requires the blood of the saintess. I know it's a lot to ask, but this could prevent a great tragedy and alter the future for the better.
-Why do you want to travel to the past? I asked, trying to keep my voice steady despite the shock.
-I need to save someone very dear to me. Erica admitted, her voice tinged with sadness. This person was lost because of a mistake that could be corrected if we act quickly.
- What happened to your friend? I asked concerned.
Erica took a deep breath, her eyes glistening with tears.
Something very horrible happened because of me… She said, her voice breaking. A demon killed my friend because I trusted the wrong person. I opened its seal, and it ended up destroying the entire city. My friend was possessed by the demon, and I... I had to kill her to stop it. It was the hardest thing I've ever done. But the demon was too powerful, and no one had been able to stop it. It's still roaming free, causing destruction wherever it goes. I was lucky enough to escape but…. I can't undo the past, but with the saintess's blood, I can at least try to make things right.
A demon? Lily gasped, her eyes wide with fear.
Yes, a powerful one. Erica nodded, wiping her tears. If I can go back and warn Anne and me, I might be able to save her and prevent the demon from being unleashed. But I need your help to find the saintess.
But how can we find the saintess? Lily asked, glancing at me and then back at Erica.
The saintess may be hiding, but she might reveal herself if we create a situation where she needs to help. Erica explained, her voice regaining some of its composure. If you three are willing, we can devise a plan to draw her out safely.
What do you think, Isa? Lily asked, her voice full of concern.
I... I don't know. This is so much to take in. I admitted, feeling overwhelmed. But if we can help someone and maybe change the course of history for the better...
It's a lot to ask, I know. Erica said gently. Take your time to think about it. But remember, this is an opportunity to make a real difference. To save lives and change the world.
As we left Erica's house, the weight of her words was heavy on our shoulders. Walking through the busy streets of the town, my mind was racing with thoughts and emotions. The responsibility was immense, but so was the potential for good. That night, as I lay in bed, I couldn't shake the feeling that this was the adventure we had been waiting for, and maybe, just maybe, we could change the course of history.
What are we going to do, Isa? Lily's voice broke through my thoughts, her eyes filled with worry.
I don't know yet, Lily. I said, taking a deep breath. But we should try. For Erica, for her friend, and for everyone who could be affected by this. Maybe I'll tell her the truth about me, If I am the saintess then I could help her but if not I'll find the saintess.
BTW: I'll be releasing a new chapter every Sunday.
