Sister Sun's eyes were red as she wiped them with the back of her hand before quietly leaving the room. She sighed in the empty corridor, "Good things never come easy, good things never come easy! As long as these two are truly together, no difficulty can bring them down!"
In a muddled state, Gu Xiaoer felt she was being held so tightly that she could hardly breathe, as if she had returned to that suffocating, deadly fire. There were arms wrapped around her, using their body to ward off danger...
Suddenly awakened, her large eyes still shimmered with blurred luster.
Upon recognizing the intensely focused person beside her, she felt a surge of emotion. Unsure of where to place her hands, she started to cry with soft whimpers.
"Silly girl, why the tears? Isn't your husband perfectly fine?" Han Luoli's thumb brushed her eyes, his touch tender and caring despite the roughness.
But the more he wiped away her tears, the more they seemed to flow.
"You're alright? You're really alright?"
"I was fine, but now that I see you, I'm not anymore..."
Alarmed by his serious tone, she quickly checked his back, "Is there something wrong? Does the wound hurt?"
Han Luoli shook his head, covering her small hand with his large one and slowly moving it to his chest, "It's here, this is what hurts."
"You're still teasing..." Her tears started flowing again, the usually so proud man, spouting sweet nothings without hesitation, regardless of his injuries.
The man felt helpless and distressed, his cool lips touching those watery big eyes, trying to absorb each crystal of saline warmth into his mouth.
With wet eyelashes, the girl pushed him away, choking on her sobs, "Do you know you almost scared me to death! Why did you come back for me? Why did you risk your life to save me?"
"You're really silly! If not you, whom would your husband save?" He tapped her little nose, chuckling as he noticed a shiny trail forming, teasing her with a smile, "You cry, and your nose runs!"
While he chided her verbally, his long arm reached for a tissue, wiping her nose clean.
"Stop crying. You look like a little tear-stained cat."
Gu Xiaoer immediately dried her tears and protested stiffly, "I'm not..."
Han Luoli watched Gu Xiaoer laugh and he too smiled involuntarily. His mood seemed to be so influenced by her, beyond his control.
Truly, he couldn't be without her anymore.
Gently embracing her slender figure, he laid her down on the bed, tucking in the blanket, and said softly, "Baby, get some good sleep, alright?"
"Are you leaving?" Gu Xiaoer clutched at the corner of his clothes, her expression pitiful as she asked, as if he might turn and leave at any moment.
"I have some things to take care of, can you sleep first?" he coaxed her patiently.
He felt the hot pendant in his pocket.
Gu Xiaoer shook her head, biting her lip for a long while before finally mustering the courage to speak with a blushing face, "I don't want you to go... Can you stay?" Her big eyes blinked with obvious longing.
She really had him defeated.
How could he bear to disappoint her?
With a slight lift at the corners of his thin lips, Han Luoli slid the blankets aside and gently embraced her.
Gu Xiaoer nestled into his chest obediently, comforted by his familiar scent, finally feeling at peace.
He was her sense of security.
Han Luoli sighed softly to himself; to him, she was everything.
...
The next morning, the two were woken up by the sudden scattering of sunlight on their faces.
Sister Sun, while straightening the curtains, couldn't help but smile to herself; these two were truly a perfect match, one with a gentle temperament, the other cold and aloof, complementing each other beautifully.
Gu Xiaoer moaned softly, slowly turning her head to see the handsome face beside her, which had just awakened.
