When Gu Xiaoer woke up, her eyes met the unfamiliar whiteness around her, permeated by the pungent smell of disinfectant. Her eyes were dry; she blinked and blinked before remembering what she had gone through.
Once her consciousness cleared, she came to her senses and bolted out from under the covers.
"Ah, miss, where are you going? You're still receiving an IV!" The nurse was caught off guard by Gu Xiaoer's sudden move, abandoning the medicine cart she was pushing to chase after the girl who hadn't even put on her shoes.
The long hospital corridor echoed with Gu Xiaoer's blind running, the cold floor chilling to the bone. Her hand was stained with large patches of blood, oozing from where she violently pulled out the needle, dripping onto the porcelain tiles.
But she couldn't care less about these things; she needed to find Han Luoli now. She needed to make sure he was safe and unharmed!
She closed her eyes; a mist of tears welled up in her dry eyes. She would never forget that at the brink of disaster, when she was in despair, awaiting death, it was Han Luoli who, from such a height, dived directly into her room.
Before that huge burning cabinet fell, he shielded her steadily!
Within his broad and sturdy chest, she watched helplessly as the cabinet mercilessly crashed onto his back, a horrifying sight!
"Miss, miss, where are you going?" The nurse, out of breath, caught up with Gu Xiaoer and quickly grabbed her wrist to stop the bleeding.
Gu Xiaoer stood dazedly, letting the nurse fuss over her, licked her somewhat cracked lips, and asked, "What about the man who was brought in with me?"
Only when speaking did she realize how weak and hoarse her voice was, as if she had had a severe illness; her vocal cords must have been damaged by the smoke.
Seeing the nurse shake her head, even though her throat was swollen and painful, she pressed on anxiously, "I mean that very handsome man who was injured on the back!"
"Ah, miss, you're hurting me!" The nurse, startled by the agitated patient, wrenched her hand free, showing several fingernail marks.
"I'm so sorry, I got too excited. Are you okay?" Gu Xiaoer said, feeling guilty.
"Miss, I'm fine. Please come back with me, Doctor Shen will blame me if he finds out!"
"Doctor Shen? Doctor Shen Minghan? Is this Central Hospital?" Gu Xiaoer asked several questions in a row, only slightly relieved after seeing the nurse nodding repeatedly. "Then hurry and take me to Doctor Shen!"
A few minutes later, upon hearing that Gu Xiaoer had woken up, Doctor Shen Minghan also hurried to the ward. Seeing her pale face devoid of color, a faint pang of distress flashed in his eyes.
"Xiao Er, how do you feel?"
"Brother Minghan, where is Han Luoli? How is he doing? Are his injuries severe?"
Again, several questions in succession.
Doctor Shen Minghan placed his hands on her shoulders, pressing her to sit on the hospital bed, his tone gentle with the concern of a healer: "Xiao Er, he's fine. Can you please focus on healing yourself for now?"
"Brother Minghan, I want to see him. Please let me see him. I can only be at peace if I make sure he's alright with my own eyes!" She pleaded pitifully, tilting her head up, her woman's intuition telling her that it wasn't as simple as Doctor Shen Minghan's reassurance of "he's fine."
Otherwise, why hadn't Han Luoli come to see her by now? Or if he was too injured to move, he would have certainly asked to be in the same ward as her.
He was such a domineering person, after all!
"Xiao Er!" Doctor Shen Minghan called her name, his voice growing heavy.
The two of them locked eyes for a full ten seconds before the man finally admitted defeat, softening his tone: "Xiao Er, you must promise me not to get agitated, then I will take you to see him."
