Mr. Bai's brow tightened; he naturally knew who that woman was, and it was no wonder he couldn't find Han Luoli today.
Looking in the direction where Gu Xiaoer had disappeared, both men revealed a faint hint of unwillingness to let go.
When Gu Xiaoer woke up, she was still on an IV drip. There was no one around—only a nurse was present.
"Excuse me, who brought me here?"
"It was Mr. Bai," the nurse sweetly responded.
"Mr. Bai?" So, it wasn't Han Luoli after all. Did she end up waiting for him? And exactly who is Mr. Bai? Does he know her?
She was very weak, and her head hurt a lot. Thankfully, she soon saw a familiar face.
Shen Minghan said with a gentle smile, "Don't get up; you're too frail, and you almost got an infection in your lungs from catching a cold."
"I... don't know your surname yet." Although Gu Xiaoer had seen Shen Minghan, the two hadn't exchanged many words, and she knew even less about him.
Shen Minghan smiled, "That guy Han Luoli is really petty, not even introducing me to you. Hello, my name is Shen Minghan, I'm a doctor at this hospital."
"Aren't you a rental boyfriend?"
Gu Xiaoer blurted it out; she had always thought Shen Minghan had the same profession as Han Luoli.
Shen Minghan just smiled and didn't respond, indeed, he had no idea how to answer Gu Xiaoer's blunt question.
Gu Xiaoer stuck out her tongue, "Thank you, Mr. Shen, may I ask when I can leave? I feel much better now."
"You don't need to be so formal, girl. It feels too distant calling me Mr. Shen. Even Han Luoli has to call me 'big brother,' so you might as well call me 'brother' too," Shen Minghan proposed. Unlike Han Luoli, he was extremely gentle and restrained. His words were like a warm spring breeze, giving off the feeling of a friendly older brother next door.
But Gu Xiaoer wouldn't comply so easily; she wasn't familiar enough with him to use such familiar terms. Or, rather, without a certain relationship with Han Luoli, what right did she have to follow his lead in addressing others?
"Mr. Shen..."
"Call me 'brother.'" The other party insisted.
"Um... Brother Minghan... may I ask about the Mr. Bai who brought me here..." She awkwardly gave in.
"Do you mean Bai Xiaoyu? He brought you here and left after paying the bill," Shen Minghan informed.
Bai Xiaoyu? Gu Xiaoer's dazed mind recalled that name—it was the design department head from Shenghan Group known for his arrogance. Why would he bring her here?
Although she had various questions in mind, seeing that Shen Minghan didn't seem inclined to say more, she kept her thoughts to herself. If she had the chance to see Minister Bai again, she would definitely make sure to thank him properly.
Having stayed in the hospital for two days comfortably, Gu Xiaoer refused to stay any longer. The VIP ward was so expensive, and she didn't have much money. When she saw Minister Bai, she had to thank him and also repay him for the medical expenses—a significant sum.
After fretting over the money came an empty feeling. During these few days in the hospital, she had not seen Han Luoli, nor had she received a call or message from him. Before, she used to find him bothersome, but now that she had lost contact, she felt lost.
Why didn't he come that day? Did he know she was waiting for him? Why hadn't he called even once?
She then laughed at herself mockingly. What status did she have to care about his whereabouts? They had nothing but a rental agreement. What could there be between them?
She took out her phone, wanting to call him, but after hesitating, she eventually put down the phone.
No status, no standing.
