Yu Se halted in her steps, pondering for a moment before heading toward the window and took the cell phone from Lan Ying's hand.
"Mother," Gu Jiangnian called evenly from the other side.
"Have you gotten off the plane?" That morning, Yu Se had called Gu Jiangnian to say she would visit him. Gu Jiangnian had thought she meant the office, so he agreed. He hadn't expected her to come to the Gu Mansion.
"I'm almost at the office. Have you come?" Gu Jiangnian purposely informed her, hoping Yu Se would pick up on the deeper meaning.
"Not coming home?" Yu Se's pace faltered as she held the phone.
"I'm going straight to the office," Gu Jiangnian said from the other end, his heart pounding like a war drum at Yu Se's response.
Yu Se pursed her lips, silently giving an "Mm" before walking toward the floor-to-ceiling window and raising her hand to whoosh open the study's curtains.
In an instant, Lan Ying felt her heart leap to her throat.
Her heart raced, thumping wildly.
