On the thirteenth of September,
Emperor Kangxi lashed out at the Crown Prince.
The reason was that the Crown Prince had accepted congratulatory gifts from the Anhui Governor.
Emperor Kangxi spoke vehemently at the morning court assembly, scolding the Crown Prince till he was metaphorically drenched in blood.
"I had never realized that you, the Crown Prince of a nation! For such petty benefits, you disregard the state and its welfare! Colluding with corrupt officials! What are you trying to do? You are still the Crown Prince now! If you dare to do this, what will you become once you ascend the throne as Emperor? Won't you ruin the foundation laid by our ancestors? Disregarding the wellbeing of our subjects!?"
Emperor Kangxi was extremely heartbroken as he pointed at the Crown Prince kneeling before his feet, "You truly have disappointed me to the utmost!"
The Crown Prince knelt there, clad in his straight, golden-yellow royal attire, his head bowed low, hands clenched tightly.
