Wudang Mountain is the Holy Land of Taoism, also known as Taihe Mountain, Xieluo Mountain, Shangshan Mountain, and Xianshi Mountain, with ancient monikers such as "Taiyue", "Xuanyue", and "Dayue".
In the Ming Dynasty, Wudang Mountain was ennobled by the Emperor as "Dayue", "Zhishixuanyue", and revered as the supreme "Royal Family Temple". Wudang Mountain earned its fame with its distinguished status, hailed as "Crowned of the Five Sacred Mountains, to which the other four pay homage and the immortal peaks in all directions offer their allegiance". Wudang martial arts is an important school of Chinese martial arts.
Wudang Mountain is also the birthplace of Taoist sacred mountains and Wudang martial arts, acclaimed as the "Ancient Peerless Paradise, the Number One Immortal Mountain in the World". Wudang Mountain features seventy-two peaks, thirty-six rocks, twenty-four ravines, eleven caves, three ponds, nine springs, ten pools, nine wells, ten stones, and nine platforms.
