The Ancient Buddha was a false Buddha, not recognized by the Buddhist Sect. Hence, he could only take refuge in the dilapidated Northern Law Sea Temple, unable to enter the Biyun Temple at Xiangshan. Biyun Temple was the current leader of the Buddhist Sect, where those who entered Buddhism wished to cultivate. However, out of gratitude for his master's spiritual transformation, the Ancient Buddha willingly remained in the decrepit Northern Law Sea Temple. He prostrated himself before the Buddha stele three times daily and then diligently recited the Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva Sutra.
