The woman seemed to have caught the scent of tea, the gloom in her brow dissipating quite a bit.
I tentatively spoke up, "How may I address the beauty?"
The woman took a sip of tea and said indifferently, "My surname is Bai."
Without looking up, I continued to brew the tea, "Mrs. Bai, what's causing you such distress?"
Then, I handed her a freshly brewed cup of tea, "A woman's sorrow breaks the heart. Try this tea and see if it makes your spirit soar and your mind clear."
Mrs. Bai regarded me with a hint of suspicion.
A proper smile on my face, I watched as Mrs. Bai drained the cup.
"The same tea leaves produce different flavors in different waters, temperatures, and brewing times. This cup, however, was made with natural dew, naturally it's fragrant and sweet with a lingering sweetness," I said with a smile as I explained to Mrs. Bai.
"Just like people, they aren't always in a low ebb, and even at low ebbs, there is still a glimmer of hope."
After finishing the tea, Mrs. Bai gave me a deep look before leaving.
These days my life had been uneventful, but things seemed to be going poorly for Zheng Yufei, as she had come home drunk on several occasions.
That evening, she was still quite drunk and vomited in the bathroom as soon as she got home. I sighed, after all, she was technically my wife, and it was my duty to take care of her.
I walked into the bathroom with a glass of water, where Zheng Yufei's face was flushed red, and her white cross-chest dress hung loosely on her frame. Her hair, damp with sweat, clung to her face in a disheveled mess.
But even so, her natural poise couldn't be concealed.
Seeing me come in, Zheng Yufei was somewhat displeased, "What are you doing here?" I handed her the water, "Rinse your mouth, after all, you're still my wife in name, it's my responsibility to take care of you."
Zheng Yufei seemed not to have expected such a response and was stunned for a moment. I stepped forward and gently patted her back, hoping she would feel better after getting it all out.
After Zheng Yufei finished throwing up, I helped her sit on the couch. Her eyes were red at that moment, glinting with unshed tears upon closer inspection.
I asked subconsciously, "What's wrong?"
This question seemed to open Pandora's box, as Zheng Yufei, curling up with her legs on the couch, began to sob softly.
I was taken aback, having never imagined the tomboyish Zheng Yufei could cry, and do so beautifully. The stark contrast of a strong woman in tears is forever the most beautiful.
I sat silently across from Zheng Yufei, waiting for her to stop crying and lift her head on her own.
Her face was etched with grievances, "You've come to mock me too, haven't you? To see how hard I'm struggling to climb up; whenever I try to do something, so many people are there to make it difficult for me!"
I couldn't for the life of me guess, who would dare to trouble her?
Zheng Yufei continued, "Even that guy with the surname Qian, he dares to covet me!"
"Surname Qian, the owner of Honey Peach KTV?" I asked.
Zheng Yufei grew even more aggrieved, "Yes, him. He thinks he can leverage his connections to manipulate me, and when he can't, he resorts to underhanded tricks. Is it easy for a woman to shoulder such a family business?"
Seeing this, I sat next to Zheng Yufei, gently holding her trembling shoulders, "But you can do it, can't you? You're the most formidable woman I've ever met."
Zheng Yufei didn't push me away, on the contrary, she leaned into my embrace a little more. The faint scent of her body mingled with the smell of alcohol rushed into my nostrils, and at that moment, I had a perfect view of the snow-white expanse of her chest.
