I wanted to cry but had no tears left, resignedly I started to correct the documents. I recognized every word on the sheet, but when strung together, they seemed like gibberish to me, which was one of the reasons I hated looking at this stuff.
After correcting all the documents begrudgingly, Secretary Chen finally let me go out for lunch. Min'er had been waiting at the door for ages and couldn't help remarking on seeing me, "Wen, you really are hardworking, all your spirit and vitality have stayed in the office."
I laughed twice with a forced, skin-deep smile. By the time we reached the canteen, all the food had been scraped down to nearly nothing.
Luckily, there was still a big chicken drumstick to fill my fragile soul. I gnawed on the drumstick ferociously, looking as if I was trying to consume Secretary Chen raw.
Seeing my furious face, Min'er ate her meal in trepidation, not daring to speak to me for fear of disturbing my bad mood and incurring my wrath.
