The accounts in the box were relatively new and well preserved. I only flipped through two books before I spotted some clues. In one of the books, the handwriting varied in depth. I ran my finger over it, tracing a line where the ink was deeper, confirming that there had been alterations in these ledgers.
I really couldn't fathom the reason why the Secretary-General would do such a thing, but for the time being, I didn't want a direct confrontation. I was more interested in uncovering the truth.
So, I got up, closed the door to the archives, turned on the recording device on my phone, and made my way to the Secretary's office.
When the Secretary-General saw me, she greeted me warmly and was about to get some people to assist me, but I stopped her with a raised hand. Puzzled, she looked at me as I turned to the junior secretaries behind her, "Stop whatever you're doing and step outside."
After I finished speaking, I looked at the Secretary-General, "You stay."
