To tell the truth, I find it pretty interesting. The political world is a deep pool, and any official who isn't cunning enough would've long been manipulated without knowing where they've landed, including these officer's wives. Outwardly, they have to maintain networks for their husbands and colleagues' wives, while inwardly, they must guard against their husbands fooling around outside.
Rich and powerful men will never be content with just one woman; playing around outside to satisfy needs by spending some cash is something these wives turn a blind eye to. But once some greedy ones want to bear children and climb up the ladder, threatening their status, the methods of these officer's wives are no less ruthless than men's.
Strangely enough, they're not that interested in jewelry. They all prefer collecting Guanyin or Buddha statues, symbolizing their merciful hearts.
