Chapter 6 - Chapter VI

"You did what?"

"Calm down, Kyle," she said to the werewolf walking around the room.

"This is bad, Kathy. Not regular bad, I mean bad! What will we do if they get you?"

"They won't get me," she snickered, "I'll be fine."

"I'm coming with you."

"No!" She shouted, leaping off the bed, "You can't come, it's not safe!"

"What do you mean, 'it's not safe?' You're going, so I'm coming too!" He growled at her.

"Listen," she said calmly, "As much as I would love for you to come, you can't. I'm pretty sure he wouldn't want me to come with anyone."

"He didn't say so, meaning I can come."

"It's my mother's necklace we're talking about," she shouted, her hazel eyes meeting his blue ones, "It's the only thing she left behind!"

She felt tears flow down her cheek. She didn't try to stop crying, she had welled up her emotions for far too long. He pulled her into a hug, but she pushed him away.

"Now's not the time, I need to"

The knock on the door ended the conversation. She stood up from the bed, deciding to see who was at the door.

"What is it, Rhoda?" She said to the petite brunette behind the door. Rhoda blinked her bright blue eyes and bit her fingers. "Your father wants to speak with you."

Kathy put her hands in her pants pockets. "I won't say I didn't expect this. I'm guessing it's with regards to my presence in the garden last night."

Rhoda nodded. "I'll be with you in a minute," she said, before shutting the door.

"What's wrong?"

She ignored his question, pretending she didn't hear him. "I guess I should get going then."

She refused to reply. She walked out of the room, leaving Kyle alone.

She stood in front of her father's chambers, too scared to knock. She was contemplating leaving but the door opened, pulling her out of her thoughts. Her father stood behind the door, his cold stare on her. His grey eyes seemed darker, his hair greyer.

"You sent for me, father?" She shivered.

"Yes indeed," he said, his baritone voice echoing off the walls. He moved aside, beckoning her to step into the room. She timidly went inside, her body still shaking.

"If I may ask, why have you sent for me?"

He sat on the grand oak bed, entreating her to sit next to him. Ignoring him, she stood. He chuckled and made himself comfortable on the bed. He took a long breath and began.

"How are you, Kathryn?"

She felt the room becoming warmer, her fists clenching, her breath seizing, her chest constricting. "I am quite well, alpha. You still haven't told me what the problem is, and I believe it's not because you wanted to know how I'm faring," she mumbled, deciding to give him the benefit of the doubt.

"What were you doing at the gardens last night?" He said sternly.

She gulped timidly, suddenly feeling claustrophobic. "It was nothing Father, I wanted to…"

"What's going on, Kathryn?"

"I went to see Kyle."

That was the most reasonable explanation she could give. It wasn't a lie, she had gone to see him. But what she couldn't let him find out was that she had wandered into the vampires' territory, her father would skin her alive! She couldn't however, help but feel drawn to it. It was like she was meant to be there.

"Kyle?"

"Yes, Father, Kyle."

"You could have gone during the day, I won't stop you."

"I know, it's just…"

"Just what?"

"Nothing, Father. I should go."

She padded out of the room quickly, not wanting to continue the discussion.

She sighed once she got to her room, realizing that Kyle wasn't in it. All is well, she thought, as she lay on her pillow. Shutting her eyes, she wandered into the world of dreams.

The moon shone brightly, providing a dim light that allowed them to see. There was something about the moon that fascinated her, although she didn't voice it out. The females were huddled in a corner, giggling and laughing and she wasn't an exception. The ceremony began and soon, she was face to face with her destiny.

The priest was about to proclaim them mates, she was sure of it. But then, he was snatched away by the wind. She screamed and cried, begging him to come back. But he didn't, instead, he flew higher, and higher, and higher until she couldn't see him again…

Kathy woke up, her clothes soaked in sweat. "It was just a dream, just a dream," she said to herself. She began to wonder why the dreams became frequent, happening two nights in a row. It seemed unnatural, even for her. She looked out the window, it was time. She quickly dashed into the bathroom and out, donning black pants and a shirt, similar to the clothes she had worn the previous day. She put on the cloak and covered her face with a shawl. She quickly leaped down the window. Not sparing another second, she rushed out of the pack house and into the forest, not stopping for anything.

She finally stopped running, she had gotten to the gardens. It wasn't much of a garden, just a few flowers and a large oak tree. She looked around, hoping to catch a glimpse of him. He wasn't there, she knew she had been tricked. She knew she would be in big trouble if she was found there. It's probably a trap, her brain said, go back before it's too late!

"I can't go back!" She said to the garden in general, "Not without mother's necklace."

The voices stopped immediately. She wobbled to the oak tree, laying her head against it. Suddenly, she felt a searing pain in her abdomen. Not again! She cried. She knew she had to go back, the pain was becoming worse with every passing second. She stubbornly waited, ignoring the pain. I can't leave, not without my mother's necklace!

She felt an object fall on her head. Compared to the pain in her stomach, it was nothing. She looked at it. It was an acorn. She looked at the direction from whence it fell. Seeing nothing, she leaned her head against the tree once more.

"You do enjoy getting into trouble, don't you?"

She flinched, caught unaware by the voice. Her sudden movement caused her to bump her head against the tree. Her eyes looked in the direction of the voice. Finally, she saw his figure.
