Chapter 5 - Day 7(A day has passed)

James and Bernice walked into the office hand in hand. Immediately they entered, Jake called them into his office. "I heard what happened to you two in the hospital." he began. "Your asthma attacked you and you were helpless and you could have died so welcome back," he added. "Thank you, Jake," Bernice said kissing Jake on the cheek. Jake blushed a little and James was a little jealous. "Jake, I've got great news for you," said James. "What is it?" Jake asked. "I know who 'Shadow' is," he responded. "Who is he?" asked both Jake and Bernice. "His name is Regnald Golcastre," he answered. "He was my yearmate in middle, high, and college school," he added. Hearing the name Jake's face turned pale and he looked visibly worried. "Wait, you mean 'Poopstar' is 'Shadow'?" Bernice asked surprised. "Yeah," James answered. Bernice turned and looked at Jake and he looked like he was about to have a stroke. "Jake. Are you okay?" she asked. "Yeah. Yeah, I'm okay," he answered.

"Letters. Letters. Get your letters." shouted Johanson as he entered doing what he does every day. James and Bernice hearing what they were waiting for left Jake's office. "Good morning detectives." he greeted when they got to him. "Good morning Johanson. How are we today?" Jake greeted and asked. "We is fine," replied Johanson. "I like your sense of humor," James said laughing a little as Johanson handed them their letter. James took the envelope opened it and started reading.

Dear James,

I see you've gotten better but unfortunately for me, I'm going on business for the next three days but that does not mean you're safe. Six people are still going to die. Three for the days you were away and if I'm still not found three in the next three days I'll be away. Well goodbye. I'll see you in paradise.

After James read the letter out loud the whole office was sent into a commotion. James calmed everyone down and told them that everything was going to be alright. He folded the paper and put it in his pocket. "Okay calm down everyone. I'm sending this to my office for further investigation," he said as the crowd made way for him and he went to his office. He entered the office, took a seat, and removed the letter from his pocket. in opened it and started going through. He checked the down part of the letter, a place he did not open, to see another message.

The first one read, "We love ourselves." The second was, "Like brother, like sister." And the third was, "Unstable." Then these three notes he wrote, "These are my next victims." with red ink. He rushed back out and called for a gathering. He showed them the clues he had seen. "Who could these people be?" one officer asked stroking his chin. Just then one of the female officers freaked out. "Calm down Denise. What's wrong?" the other officers asked as they tried to hold her. "I think I am going to be the first to go," she said as tears flowed out of her eyes. "What do you mean?"James asked confused.

"The clue said, "We love ourselves." and only I and Doreen are homosexuals here," she answered as she tried to free herself from the grip of the man holding her. "If this is true," James said. "Then we have to protect you guys, but you have to calm down first." Denise relaxed and the man released her. "Johansen, I want you to get me Officer Doreen immediately!" "Yes sir," he said, saluting and leaving. He returned with her a minute later. Denise ran to hug her immediately she saw Doreen. James held them and let them sit on the floor with the others surrounding them. They sat there for about thirty minutes then out of nowhere Denise got up and ran towards the door. The other cops tried grabbing her but they couldn't. She ran to the door of the office and tried opening it but it was locked. She pulled the knob but it still did not open. As she kept pulling, she heard someone calling her from behind. "Honey!" the person called. She turned to see Doreen looking at her. Denise started to cry and Doreen started to walk towards her. "I don't wanna die," she said as tears flowed down her cheeks. "No one's gonna die, honey," she said. "So calm down." Denise slowly left the door knob and fell to her knees.

Doreen was about to talk when she heard a squeaking sound. "Denise look ou..." But before Doreen could finish her sentence, the board that was holding the box TV got loose causing it to still down and fall on Denise. Blood splatted everywhere as the other officers hearing Doreen's scream rushed to the scene. Doreen rushed over to her girlfriend as James followed her. She got down on her knees before her as James grabbed her. "We gotta go Dor. Here isn't safe," James said as he tried pulling Denise away. She got up on her feet and James hugged her. The squeaking started again and Doreen turned in less than a second a wood plank broke off and plunged a nine-inch nail into her left eye. James rushed to carry her when he and the other officers heard a scream. Some of the officers ran in the direction of the noise. They got there to see a horrible sight. The ceiling fan had fallen on two other officers cutting, crushing, and slicing them to pieces.. "What happened here?" Jake asked as he rushed out of his office. Some just shrugged as the others examined the splatted corpses.

"Who got killed?" James asked as he examined the bodies. "Dominic and Heidi," one officer answered. "Like brother, like sister," James said as he stroked his chin. As they all gathered around the murder scene a piece of paper slowly flew down. James caught it and on it was a note. "4 down. 2 more to go. To make this fast which two people fight a lot in this office but are best friends?" James brought the paper down from his face and asked in a scared voice, "Where's Richard and Richmond?" "Fighting as always," an officer replied. "Were are they?" he asked again. "In the third lobby by n...," she answered again. James bolted away before the lady could finish her answer. He kept running till he bumped into Bermice. "Where are you going honey?" she asked as she held him. "Not now Bea," he said. "I'm busy right now." He tried freeing himself from her grip but she held him tight. She looked him dead in the eye and asked, "What's wrong James?" she asked. James looked at her with a confused face but in his mind, it was like, "Lady haven't you heard all that has been happening in the office the whole of today." "Nothing. I'm just looking for Richmond and Richard." "Oh, they were just fighting in the lobby right now." "Thank you!!" James said and bolted off again.

He quickly got to the lobby and found the two guys on top of each other. Richmond was trying to strangle Richard. They stayed like that till James separated them. "What's wrong?" Richard asked. "You guys are about to d..." Before James could answer they heard something outside the window. The two guys rushed to the window. Richard opened it and put it out to check what made the sound. "Nothing's he..." Richard's voice was heard no more. The AC outlet had dislodged and fallen on his head.

His body fell out of the window and onto the ground. Richmond went over to see what happened. He looked out the window and saw nothing out of the ordinary. "What's out there?" James asked. "Nothing," Richmond managed to say before his calmness turned to screams. A loose wire had flung and caught hold of Richmond's shirt hanging him out the window. He kept screaming, tugging onto the rope trying to free himself. The wire kept tearing his shirt lowering him and loudening his screams. He kept screaming and tugging unto the wire until it gave way and left him to fall to the ground.

James rushes over and stares out of the window. Both men had spread their blood on the floor and their bones had been turned the wrong way. As James looked out the window a paper plane flew into the room. James picked it up and opened it. He unfolded it and read it with all seriousness. This letter makes him happy and he walks out of the lobby to tell the others about it.
