Knock knock.
I rap softly on Sophia's door several times. It takes a while for her to open it, and when she does, I see her puffed, red eyes. She must have been crying a lot. Her body is still trembling.
"May I come in?" I ask gently from the doorway.
"Nn…" Sophia just nods and steps aside.
Her room is quite large, but the king-sized bed takes up almost half of it. I sit on the chair next to the bed while she climbs onto it, pulling a blanket and pillows to cover her face. As we sit in silence for a minute, I notice a spot on the cover that's already wet with tears. Seeing her like this, my heart aches. There's an overwhelming urge to go to her side and hug her tightly, to share this emotional burden with her, but I resist.
After all, even if we were husband and wife in another life, right now, we are not lovers. I know she must have some feelings for me, I can tell. But I already have Mirayuki.
