"Can I come with you?" I asked, my eyes wide and hopeful.
Seraphina shook her head, smiling gently. "No, it's alright. It's something I need to handle alone. Enjoy the rest of your lunch."
I looked a bit disappointed but nodded. "Alright, if you say so."
Seraphina gave my hand a reassuring squeeze before standing up and making her way to her office. I watched her go, my mind racing with curiosity. What was so important that she couldn't let me tag along?
As soon as she was out of sight, I pushed my half-eaten lunch aside and leaned back in my chair, tapping my fingers on the table. I wasn't about to sit here and twiddle my thumbs while Seraphina ran off on some secret mission. No, I needed to know what was going on.
A plan began to form in my mind. If she wasn't going to let me come with her, I'd just have to follow her. And to do that, I'd need a disguise.
