It felt good to be home after another gruell day at school. He looked forward to getting home and resting his tired limbs.
He had expended a great deal of energy at school during volleyball practice and waiting behind for the school play.
He was now in his senior year of high school and they would be graduating in a few weeks. It felt good to leave high school and go to college.
What further made him excited was he had received the mail that confirmed that he had been admitted into the prestigious New York University.
He couldn't wait to share the news with his family. No, father and stepmother along with his step brother. He couldn't understand what wrong his mother had done that made his father divorce her.
He felt the divorce had led to his mother's death. Well, all he had to do was to focus on inheriting the company. He sighed to himself as he made his way towards the school's parking lot where his car was parked.
He got into the car and put it in ignition. He steered the wheel and was about to drive out when he paused. He looked at the time and placed call across to his stepbrother, Chris.
The phone rang for up to four times before his brother's breathless voice sounded from the other end of the line.
"Hi, Roger. Where are you?" Chris innocent voice filtered into his ears, in a way he didn't like.
"I had volleyball practice at school and had to wait behind. Are you home?" He asked.
"Yes. Dad came to pick me up at school with mom." The young boy replied. His reply sparked something in Roger's chest which he couldn't explain himself.
He had to say a rushed goodbye promising to get home as soon as possible. He hung up the phone and a complicated feeling arose deep in him.
He heaved a sigh and revved the car which had been purring idly. He made a careful U-turn and shot the car into the road. A few turns and traffic lights later, he was at the gate to the mansion.
He carefully drove in and bounced up the stonefaced steps that led to the front door. He got into the living room and sighed with disappointment.
He scoffed at himself and wondered why he was disappointed for not being met at the door. It wasn't a strange occurrence. It had always been so.
After having this pep talk and chastising himself, he made for the wide spiral staircase that led to the second floor of the mansion whee his room was.
On the way to his room, he had to pass by his father's study. He got to the door and saw it was slightly ajar.
While he was still standing there dumbfounded and wondering why the door was open, he heard excited laughter float out through the open door.
"Yay!!! I did it. I won you, dad. I'm supposed to be the CEO of Crates, not you dad." He heard Chris' excited chatter.
"Yes son. You have a business mind." He heard his father's praise to his younger brother and the delighted laughter that accompanied it.
Roger felt numb from pain. He couldn't understand what was going on. Ever since he had been a child growing up in that mansion, he had never had any reason to go into his father's study.
Not even when he had been volunteering at Crates for summer break during the last two years. Whatever discussion they had about work had to be discussed at his father's office in the company's building.
Growing up, his father had never told him if he had a business mind or not. Now that he'd said that to Chris, does that mean he could.. ?
'No, no it could never be.' He screamed in denial in his head and covered his head with the pillow.
Saturday came and with it came a kind of anticipation in Will Park. He thought of what he was about to do and wondered if he was right about it.
On a second thought, he looked around the house and felt that he was right in the way he was about to act. He jolted back to reality as soon as he was informed of the presence of the Russells.
He stood and after the welcoming and pleasantries, lifted up Mina and played with her for some time. He was about to put her down when he suddenly remembered something.
"Oh, I almost forgot. I got some customised wristbands made for Chris and Mina." He said loudly to everyone's hearing.
He slowly went up the staircase and soon returned with two identical wristbands. He adjusted the hoops and taught each of them how to adjust it whenever they felt it was becoming tight as they grew up.
The children were fascinated and didn't take much time before they began to admire their gifts.
Roger obviously didn't care to know about any of the gifts. After a few minutes, after all the hullabaloo about the gift had subsided, Will Park called Logan to his study.
Both men got into the study and sat down comfortably in the leather chairs placed in it.
"Firstly,Logan. I need to thank you for all you're doing to me and my family. Please, have my heartfelt gratitude.
I want to believe that you'd be here for me because I'm not sure I'm going to be around. All ojust want is for Mina to be beside Chris.
She could be a wife or a free, I don't care. I just want her to be beside him. "
All Logan could feel was that his boss seemed like he had removed a huge burden from his mind. He felt something stuck in his throat and only nodded his head.
Now, there was no more choices. He got downstairs and politely gathered his family and headed home.
he still needed to think about what
had just happened in the mansion .
