Rosie's POV
I haven't been this happy in a long time.
We spent a few hours more in the comfort of each other's arms, talking about anything and everything we could think of, and whispering sweet nothings, neither of us wanting the night to end.
At some point, David glanced at his watch and then stood up. "It's too late for you to be awake, princess. Plus, we've got to get ready for work tomorrow."
I sighed. This moment still felt like a dream to me, and I was scared that once he left, I'd wake up, and everything would be back to the way they were before.
David must have sensed my uneasiness because he knelt in front of me and cupped my face with his palm. His touch felt gentle and reassuring, and his voice was soothing as he spoke calmly "I know what you're thinking. I won't leave you, Rosie, not today, not tomorrow, not ever. I love you so much, and I want you to trust me no matter what happens."
"I love you too, David, and I trust you. I promise not to leave you too, " I said solemnly, meaning every single word I said. He smiled at me and kissed my forehead lightly.
"That's my girl!" He said and stood up to his feet. I got up too, and we held hands, saying nothing but letting our eyes do all the talking.
I broke the silence. "It's really late now. You have to go."
"You're right. I just - I…" He broke off, smiling sheepishly. This man really is beautiful. "Let's go."
We walked to his car in silence, and when we got to the door, he hugged me tightly and then got in. "I'll see you tomorrow. Goodnight, Rosie."
I told him goodnight, then headed back inside. I suddenly realised how cold it was outside and hugged my arms to my chest. David waited until I was safely inside my house before he drove off.
I was too excited to sleep. My first instinct was to call Jessica and tell her about everything that had happened, but it was too late, and I wanted to go see her after work tomorrow anyway.
Instead, I settled for comfort food. My stomach had started growling at some point, reminding me that the last thing I had was cookies during my lunch break. I quickly whipped up some pancakes and a steaming cup of black coffee, then hunched myself over an old sitcom and watched while eating.
I woke up to the jarring sound of my alarm at half past 6. I must have fallen asleep while watching because I was in the same sitting position as last night. My hair had fallen every which way, and my neck hurt from sleeping in an uncomfortable position all through the night.
I was running late, and I knew it. I got up to take a warm bath, and in about 20 minutes, I was done. It was chilly outside, so I picked out a black turtle-neck long sleeved top, a plaid waistcoat and its matching skirt, and black stockings. I got dressed and took a look in the mirror. I was satisfied with what I saw. I moved on to my hair and fixed it in a bun. Next, I put on some minimalist jewellery and my shoes and sprayed a bit of perfume here and there. By 7.23 a.m., I was ready for the world.
Despite the fact that my office was less than half an hour from where I lived, I ended up getting there about a quarter past 8 because we got stuck in traffic. I got down and ran madly inside, hoping and praying that David hadn't arrived yet. I got to my seat, clocked in, and had barely settled down when he walked in in all his CEO-glory.
I stood up immediately "Good morning, Mr Crest. "
He stopped, looked at me, and then "You and Mr Nick, meet me in my office in 10 minutes." I thought he had reverted to his old self and almost started beating myself up mentally when I saw him wink and smile at me.
Nope. I wasn't living a dream.
I went to get Nick, relayed David's message to him, and then we started working on some other stuff while waiting for David to be completely settled.
When it was time, we headed to his office. Nick knocked and went in first, me following closely behind him.
"Good morning, Mr Crest. You wanted to see me?"
"Yes. Good morning, Mr Nick. First of all, I must apologise for my unannounced absence for some days. I had some…personal issues to deal with." He glanced at me so quickly that I almost missed it. "Thank you for handling the affairs of the company properly while I was away."
"It's my duty, and a pleasure to do so, Mr Crest. Is that all?" Nick asked.
"Well, no. I am fully back now, and I will fully assume my duties as the CEO this morning. However, I'll need assistance, don't you think?"
"Of course, Mr Crest. Being CEO is a lot to handle alone." For some reason, it sounded like they were both making an inside joke. I was seriously starting to wonder why David called me here.
I didn't have to wonder for too long, though. "Miss Johnson, starting now, you're to begin reporting back to me, okay?"
It took all the self-restraint I had to not begin dancing. "Yes Mr Crest."
"That's all I have for you both. You may leave now. Meanwhile, Rosie, bring all the files that need my attention here immediately."
Nick and I left the office together, and I returned to my desk while Nick prepped the files. I did a quick shimmy, then adjusted my dress and went to pick the files immediately he was done with them.
I went back to David's office and knocked, mostly out of habit, then entered without a response. David was standing at the window facing the street, his back to me. He was broad-shouldered with muscles rippling across his back, his shirt accentuating every bulge.
"Come to me, baby." He had turned around to face me at this point.
I put the files down on his table and walked up to him. I wanted to run into his arms, but I managed to keep my composure. He hugged me as soon as I got to him, maybe a bit too tightly, but I liked it that way.
"I missed you, Rosie. Spent the whole night thinking of you." He had eyebags which weren't obvious, unless you were standing as close to him as I was.
"I missed you too David. Yesterday was lovely. I was really excited to see you this morning too." I said, looking up at him with loving eyes.
"I was excited to see you too. And I'm even more excited you have your old position back. Now you can be closer to me than ever." His eyes had this half lidded, sexy look, and the way his hair fell just added to his whole appeal. His lips looked full, enticing…
He must have noticed me staring, because he leaned in so our faces were only a breath away from each other, then growled "Kiss me."
I did.
First it was soft, slow, until he took control. It became more demanding, faster, and our breathing was raggedy at this point. His hands explored every curve of my body and I leaned in even deeper.
The door handle bent. Someone was coming in.
One minute I was pressed against David's chest, the next, I was massaging the wrist I had hit against the table when he pushed me.David had his back turned back to me again.
I heard Mr Nick's voice, but his words didn't register in my brain. I kept replaying the last few seconds over and over again.
Our tango had to remain a secret, no matter what.
