Subham and Saheli moved cautiously through the maze, their steps echoing softly in the eerie silence. The air was thick with tension as they searched for Ankan. The maze seemed endless, with each turn and corridor blending into the next, creating a disorienting labyrinth.
Finally, they entered a large chamber, and there was Ankan. He was still lying with his head on the lap of the ghostly girl, completely ensnared in her illusion. His face was serene, as if he were in a deep, pleasant dream.
"Ankan!" Subham called out, rushing towards him.
But before they could reach him, the ghostly girl stood up, her eyes filled with sorrow and determination. "I can't let you take him away from me," she said, her voice echoing with an ethereal resonance. "I love him."
"He's our friend," Saheli said, her voice firm. "You can't just keep him here against his will."
The ghostly girl's expression hardened. "Then you'll have to fight me."
With a wave of her hand, the room shifted and distorted. The walls seemed to melt away, replaced by a swirling vortex of colors and shapes. Subham's golden eyes saw through the illusion, but he knew it would be a tough battle.
"Stay close to me, Saheli," he instructed. "I can see through her tricks."
The ghostly girl attacked first, creating multiple illusory clones of herself that surrounded them. Each clone moved with the same fluid grace, making it difficult to discern the real one. Subham focused, his golden eyes piercing through the deception.
"There!" he shouted, pointing out the real girl to Saheli.
Saheli nodded, her eyes blazing with determination. She summoned her flames, casting a protective barrier around them to ward off the illusions. The clones dissipated as the real ghostly girl continued her assault.
The girl summoned a torrent of spectral blades, each one shimmering with a ghostly light. They flew towards Subham and Saheli, but Subham's keen eyes allowed him to deflect them with precise movements. Saheli used her flames to incinerate any that came too close.
Despite their efforts, the ghostly girl was relentless. She conjured visions of their worst fears, trying to break their spirits. Saheli saw visions of her loved ones in danger, while Subham was confronted with the haunting image of Ananya, trapped and pleading for help.
"Focus, Saheli! It's not real!" Subham shouted, his voice cutting through the chaos.
Saheli took a deep breath, dispelling the illusions with a burst of her flames. "I'm with you, Subham."
The ghostly girl then created a maze within the chamber, twisting the space around them. The walls shifted and changed, making it nearly impossible to navigate. Subham's golden eyes, however, could see the true path.
"This way!" he called out, leading Saheli through the maze. They moved quickly, avoiding traps and navigating around the shifting walls.
Just as they neared the ghostly girl, she unleashed her most powerful illusion yet. The floor beneath them vanished, replaced by a swirling void that seemed to pull them in. Saheli stumbled, nearly falling into the abyss.
Subham grabbed her hand, pulling her back. "It's another illusion! Hold on!"
He focused, tapping into the power of the Ice Elemental Dragon for the first time. His hand glowed with a pale blue light, and he launched a powerful ice attack at the ghostly girl. The air crackled with cold as the ice spread, freezing her in place.
Saheli seized the opportunity. She closed her eyes, invoking the Flameheart Invocation. A heart of ethereal flame formed in her hands, serving as the core of her technique. She then unleashed her new technique, Inferno Requiem.
Inferno Requiem was a devastating wave of fire that surged towards the frozen girl. The flames were not just any ordinary fire; they were imbued with the very essence of Saheli's spirit, burning with an intensity that seemed to light up the entire chamber. The flames wrapped around the ghostly girl, penetrating her very essence.
The ghostly girl let out a mournful wail as the fire consumed her, her form beginning to disintegrate. The ethereal flames of Inferno Requiem burned away the layers of illusion and sorrow that had kept her tethered to this world.
As she started to disappear, Ankan stirred, waking up from his enchanted sleep. He blinked in confusion, looking around. "What's going on?"
The ghostly girl, her form flickering and fading, approached Ankan. "Goodbye, my love," she whispered. She leaned down, kissing him passionately one last time before her form dissipated into the ether.
"I'm sorry," Ankan murmured as she vanished.
Subham and Saheli exchanged confused looks. "What was that about?" Subham asked.
Ankan sighed, rubbing his eyes. "She told me her backstory..."
As they navigated their way back through the maze, Subham's golden eyes guiding them safely out, Ankan recounted what the ghostly girl had shared with him.
"Her name was Priya," Ankan began, his voice heavy with emotion. "She was a kind and loving person, always believing in the goodness of others. She had a boyfriend she loved deeply, and she thought he was the one she would spend her life with. But one day, she found him cheating on her. When she caught him red-handed, he insulted her, called her names, and broke up with her in the most humiliating way possible."
Subham and Saheli listened intently, their expressions softening with sympathy.
"That shattered her," Ankan continued. "She was devastated, but she still tried to move on. Unfortunately, life wasn't kind to her after that. She faced one hardship after another. She lost her job, her friends turned their backs on her, and she felt utterly alone. All she ever wanted was to find someone who would truly love her and keep her happy. But before she could, she died in a tragic truck accident."
"That's heartbreaking," Saheli whispered.
Ankan nodded. "Even after becoming a soul, she continued to search for that one person who would love her for who she was. She wandered for years, watching people, hoping to find someone. Then she found me. She observed me for a long time, followed me, and somehow convinced herself that I was the one she had been looking for."
"So she wasn't entirely evil," Saheli mused. "Just... lost and heartbroken."
"Yeah," Ankan agreed. "But now, she's free."
As they emerged into the night, the air felt fresh and real. The stars above seemed brighter, the world more solid and comforting after the surreal battle they had just faced.
"That was intense," Saheli said, still catching her breath.
"Yeah," Subham agreed. "But we made it through. Let's head back to Vidur's mansion. We've had enough excitement for one night."
As they walked back, Ankan looked at Subham. "Thanks for saving me, guys. I don't know what I would have done without you."
"We're a team," Subham replied with a grin. "We'll always have each other's backs."
The night was filled with the promise of new beginnings, the bonds of friendship strengthened by the trials they had faced together. And as they headed back to the safety of Vidur's mansion, they knew that no matter what challenges lay ahead, they would face them together.
