(Damon/Leo)’s POV
The worst had come to pass and I would perhaps soon die.
I found myself back at the same moment I had been thousands of years ago, when I watched my people die in the hands of the people that she was giving her life to protect—her people.
The pain was all-consuming and sending hellfire to my insides.
Worse, I lost my ability to heal so the injury just kept spreading and there wasn’t much that could be done to save my hand or my abdomen that had been hit.
I wasn’t breathing properly and I had disconnected too far from reality.
Her absence led me to a point where I no longer wanted the life I killed for.
It wasn’t the absence of her presence that drove me to intense withdrawal symptoms, it was the words.
“I, Princess Ariana of Warwick hereby reject you, Damon, the last surviving descendant of the elemental werewolves.”
Her rejection added to my physical suffering and injury and I could barely distinguish which aided to my demise.
