"Cameron, Ellie, do you guys want to play hide and seek? We could go outside if you promise not to tell your mother." My baby sitter was crazy. "Yes! Yes! Me and C promise not to tell!" My little sister was dumb.
"Cameron, Lola is going to babysit you and Ellie." My mom said 3 hours ago. She won't listen no matter how many times I tell her. That baby sitter. Shes not normal. She does multiple games with us. They are all dangerous, she wants to kill us. Her most famous game, Hide and Seek. The most dangerous. Her favorite. She only likes to play at night. She hopes that while we are playing, she won't find us, no one will, and we will disappear with an interesting head line on the news. "13 year Cameron Quakes and his 7 year old sister Ellie Quakes were playing a game of hide and seek at night and hid so well, that they were never found." again. The word trailed off at my mind. I didn't want to play. But I had no choice, I couldn't leave Ellie. "Alright, but only one round Lola." "One round? That's hardly fun, Ellie tell your serious older brother that you want to have more fun than that." "Yeah C, lets do at least 4 rounds." The first round, will be normal. The second it will take her even long to find us. We'll go far, not wanting to, and we'll hide, and when she calls for us, we won't move, as if something is controlling us. Telling us not to. That how far we usually go. We will stay hidden for hours wet and cold. one time, when I was Ellie's age, just before she was born, I got to the 3rd round. That's when I learned, this is no joke. Lola, is no joke. "No. 1 round or none." I know Ellie well. She won't go out in the night without me. Shes too scared. Of the night, of Lola. "Fine. I'll just play without you Cameron, you go watch your sports games, me and Lola will be fine on our own." What. What's wrong with her. What is she doing? Does she want to die. Alone? No, this is not her, It must be Lola. This is her doing. "2 rounds Ellie. That's as far as i'll go." "Fine! 2!" We put on our winter coats and headed to the grass park behind our house. It's about a 4 minute walk. Each step I take it gets harder to breath. All those terrible memories come back. I'll be 14 and 2 weeks. And mom said that when i'm 15, I can be trusted to watch Ellie myself for a few hours. I just need to hold out a little longer. 2 rounds. I just need to make sure we don't go past 2 rounds. "We are here kids." Lola's voice is full of danger. I can tell. She doesn't plan to let us escape without at least getting to 3. "I'll count to 1 minute. Go hide kids." "Ellie stay with me." I say it even thought I don't have to. Ellie won't hide on her own. It's too dark. and she knows I have the best hiding spots. I find a simple place behind the bushes for me and her to hide. "34, 33, 32, 31!" Lola's counting keeps on going. Wait. its been at least 10 minutes by now. "30, 29, 28!" No, an hour, why is she not getting to zero yet. "27, 26, 25, 24, 23!" I can't move. I see the sun start to rise. I can hear the police sirens. Lola's not dumb. She tried to be patient. But she caught on. She knew that I was planing to keep me and Ellie safe, so she sped up the game. "10, 9, 8!" She walks over to us smiling, "7, 6, 5, 4!" I know what's coming, So does my sister. She is unable to move as well. We both stare in fright at the woman coming towards us. "3, 2, 1."
"Carl, Elizabeth, Lola is going to be watching you today. She has a really fun game that she likes to play called hide and seek. Have fun guys."
