Under the night sky, on the dirt mound, Arthur adjusted the angle of his sniper rifle, finally aiming at Hawkeye.
Hawkeye had his bow drawn and an arrow nocked, aimed at Thor.
However, a sudden chill ran through Hawkeye's heart— it was the presence of killing intent!
His heart tightened, and he quickly turned to look in the direction of the killing intent. Just as he was about to shoot, he found nothing there, and the killing intent had vanished completely.
"Hm?"
Hawkeye was puzzled: "Was that an illusion?"
He frowned; it shouldn't have been an illusion. The momentary life-and-death crisis had been real and clear!
He scanned the area again for the source of the killing intent but found nothing, so he turned back to continue aiming at Thor.
The fight was over on this side. Thor had defeated the large opponent, torn through the plastic sheeting, and reached Mjolnir.
Hawkeye opened his communicator: "If we don't stop this…"
Before he could finish, a cold killing intent surged again, even stronger than before.
Who was hiding in the shadows?
He had to act!
Without thinking, he released an arrow, but it shot into empty space.
Hawkeye, with a cold expression, drew another arrow from his quiver and nocked it, but his expression changed from cold to confused.
"There's no one…"
He searched in several directions but still found no sign of the enemy.
"Hawkeye, it's over. What were you shooting at?"
Coulson's voice came through the earpiece. Hawkeye thought for a moment and replied, "I might not have been resting well recently… so I…"
Before he could finish, the chilling killing intent struck again!
This was definitely not an illusion!
Someone was definitely messing with him!
Hawkeye's eyes reddened with rage. He scanned the direction of the killing intent but still found nothing.
"Damn it!"
Over and over again!
It was impossible to keep experiencing these illusions!
He said over the comms, "There might be an enemy hiding in the shadows. I'm going to check it out."
He chose his words carefully due to the persistent failure to find anything.
"Be careful!" Coulson's expression changed, realizing the situation seemed serious.
Hawkeye needed to get close to investigate, indicating the opponent was not ordinary. Otherwise, a single arrow from a distance would have solved the problem; if one arrow wasn't enough… then two would do the trick!
---
Arthur had tucked himself behind a dirt mound, laughing so hard he nearly couldn't straighten up.
Of course, he had no intention of killing Hawkeye— there was no benefit in that for him— but he enjoyed the prank.
However, when The Eye of Horus showed Hawkeye leaving the camp, Arthur's smile widened even more.
"Hmm…"
Arthur thought for a moment and put away his sniper rifle.
Seeing Hawkeye come out was an unexpected surprise.
After a brief pause, he pressed something on his chest, instantly changing into a new outfit.
He now wore a simple chest armor, leather pants, and a battered horned helmet on his head.
This was one of Arthur's many disguises. During his time in the universe, he often used shapeshifting to alter his appearance while wandering aimlessly with Star-Lord.
Naturally, he had several outfits to match.
Quietly, he activated his shapeshifting skill. In the next second, his body swelled.
His original physique was already muscular and solid, but he had always seemed a bit thin. Now, however, he looked as if he had been possessed by the Hulk, his muscles bulging impossibly!
With a square jaw, a full beard, and a chest covered in thick hair, he looked every bit like a barbarian.
He casually pulled out an Asgardian two-handed greatsword from his Disassemble space, and now, holding it with one hand felt just right!
Arthur waited in the shadows for a while. When The Eye of Horus showed that Hawkeye was only about 50 meters away, he suddenly jumped out, wildly swinging his greatsword. "DEMACIA!!!"
Hawkeye was so startled that he almost called for backup!
What the hell is this?
The style doesn't match at all!
Without thinking, he raised his gun and fired. As the gunfire rang out, he saw the "barbarian" in front of him hold the greatsword horizontally in front of his chest. With a metallic clang, sparks flew, and the bullet was deflected.
Hawkeye's heart skipped a beat. Deflecting bullets with a sword? He'd never seen this move before!
He instinctively reached for his bow, but suddenly saw the "barbarian" drop his sword to the ground and softly mutter, "Shunpo!"
What in the world is Shunpo?
The next second, Hawkeye realized the "barbarian" had disappeared. When he reappeared, he was only ten meters away.
Before the thought even finished crossing Hawkeye's mind, the "barbarian" was now less than thirty meters away.
Shooting was pointless now. In a split second, Hawkeye drew his bow, nocking three arrows, and pulled it to full draw, the arrows ready to strike like thunder!
Swoosh, Swoosh, Swoosh!
Three arrows shot out, each aimed at different directions, sealing off all possible paths for the "barbarian" to advance!
At the same time, Hawkeye quickly nocked another arrow, keeping a close watch.
The first set of three arrows flew straight toward the "barbarian." But just before hitting, his massive figure suddenly disappeared, reappearing in midair. He stepped on the shaft of an arrow, leaping forward, while Hawkeye fired off another three arrows.
And Hawkeye wasn't idle; he grabbed another three arrows in hand, preparing for another strike.
Six arrows in total, he aimed to block off every possible escape route for the "barbarian."
Hawkeye was confident. By the time the last three arrows flew, they'd surely hit their mark!
But just as this thought crossed his mind, something unexpected happened.
The huge "barbarian" in front of him moved as if he had no weight at all, weaving through the air in every direction. Sometimes he would charge diagonally, sometimes hang upside down in midair, advancing with impossible angles and maneuvers.
Hawkeye took a deep breath to steady himself, readying his final three arrows.
But then, the "barbarian" suddenly let out a roar, and with both hands, swung his greatsword from above. "Getsuga... Tenshō!!!!"
As the sword fell, a layer of white light surrounded it, detaching from the blade and hurtling toward Hawkeye at lightning speed.
Hawkeye's face changed. He didn't know what this move was, but from the roar and the white light, he could tell it wasn't ordinary.
He had no time to draw his bow, quickly dodging to the side.
He managed to dodge the light, but when it hit the ground, it didn't even stir up a speck of dirt. In his confusion, he suddenly saw the "barbarian" right in front of him, grabbing at his bow. Hawkeye froze, gripping his bow tightly.
"Let go!" The "barbarian" roared.
Hawkeye refused to let go, but the greatsword came swinging down. He had no choice but to let go of the bow and roll away. After rolling a few times, he looked up, but the "barbarian" was nowhere to be seen.
