After all, he had said all that he said today for two reasons one to get confirmation about his doubts about her identity, and secondly to clear things out with her regarding his emotions.
"Have you gone crazy, Liam? How can you even think that? I have my own family with a father who loves me the most and brothers who care for me more than their lives," Lea said, her voice rising in frustration.
"And did you just fall in love with me because you think I'm the person you missed all these years? Here I thought you really loved me for who I am. I'm such a fool," she added hurt and angry.
She tried to get up and leave, but Liam grabbed her hand. "You're taking my words the wrong way, Lea. I wanted no lies between us before I made my stand clear," he said.
"Yes, I initially got close to you because of the doubts I had, but I fell in love with you because of who you are, not just because you have the same eyes as her or any other stupid reason," Liam said, standing in front of her, holding her hands. He continued,
"But it's also true that I can't get into a romantic relationship with you at this moment. The purpose of calling you here today was to ask if we can end this awkwardness and stay as good friends like we were before."
Though Lea had decided the same thing, she was really angry, especially after hearing him talk about another girl he liked before.
"Why am I getting jealous of someone I don't even know about? It's not like I can get into a romantic relationship with a human. He's also telling me the same thing I wanted to tell him, so why am I feeling like this? God, please help me..." Lea thought, tortured by questions and unknown emotions.
"Lea, please..." Liam asked, looking at her.
"Why can't you get into a romantic relationship with me?" Lea blurted out unconsciously.
"Be... because... I..." Liam stammered.
"It's okay, you don't have to answer me," Lea said quickly, then added, "It's not like I can get into any romantic relationship with you at the moment either."
This time, it was Liam who was confused. "But why?" he asked.
Lea struggled to find an answer, then blurted out a lie. "I'm already engaged to someone else."
Hearing this, Liam froze, feeling as if his heart had shattered into pieces. Even when he had resolved to stay away from her, it hadn't hurt as much as it did now, knowing she had someone else in her life.
Unbeknownst to him, a tear rolled down his cheek.
