The essence-infused hospital room was quiet, save for the soft beeping of the monitors. Magnus lay in the bed, his chest swathed in bandages, his face pale but peaceful. Kai and Sir Lancelot sat nearby, keeping vigil over their wounded comrade.

The door creaked open, and a little girl peeked in, clutching a bouquet of wildflowers. She padded over to Magnus' bedside, her eyes wide and shy.

"These are for you, mister," she said softly, holding out the flowers. "I hope you feel better soon."

Magnus smiled, the simple kindness seeming to ease his pain. "Thank you, sweetheart. That's very thoughtful of you."

The girl placed the flowers on the bedside table and waved goodbye, her small act of compassion lingering in the room like a gentle balm.

Sir Lancelot cleared his throat, his expression grave. "Magnus, I'm afraid your injury is too severe for you to join the Knights of Solaris. You'll need time to heal and recover."

Magnus' face fell, disappointment etched in every line. "But being a knight... it's all I've ever wanted. I was ready to give it my all."

Sir Lancelot gripped Magnus' shoulder, his eyes filled with understanding. "You have an incredible ability, Magnus. Your bravery in defending Elderglen was commendable. You have the heart of a true knight."

Magnus turned to Kai, his gaze fierce with determination. "Kai, promise me you'll become a strong knight. Protect the people, just as I tried to do."

Kai swallowed hard, the weight of the request settling on his shoulders like a physical burden. Could he really keep such a promise? Did he have what it took to be a knight?

But looking into Magnus' eyes, seeing the trust and belief shining there, Kai found himself nodding. "I promise, Magnus. I'll do my best to honor your wish."

The words tasted like ashes on his tongue, but he forced them out anyway. He would find a way to keep this vow, even if he had to claw his way to knighthood with bleeding fingers.

Sir Lancelot and Kai bid farewell to Magnus, the knight's parting words ringing in the air. "Rest well, Magnus. Your village is lucky to have a protector like you."

As they left the hospital, Kai's mind churned with doubt and uncertainty. Sir Lancelot, ever perceptive, noticed his troubled demeanor.

"Kai, I wanted to discuss your essence ability," the knight said as they walked through the city streets. "It's what we call a utility-based ability."

Kai looked up, curiosity momentarily overriding his inner turmoil. "What does that mean?"

"Essence abilities are influenced by a person's personality, lineage, and environment," Sir Lancelot explained. "Yours, the pocket dimension, is incredibly useful but not typically suited for combat."

Kai's heart sank. "So, my ability isn't really meant for the Knights of Solaris?"

"Not in its current form, no. But I've seen utility abilities adapted for combat before. It just takes some creativity and training."

Sir Lancelot clasped Kai's shoulder, his grip firm and reassuring. "Don't underestimate the value of your ability, Kai. With the right mindset and practice, you could turn it into a formidable tool on the battlefield."

A glimmer of hope kindled in Kai's chest. If he could make his ability combat-ready, maybe he could keep his promise to Magnus after all. Maybe he could become the knight his brother always believed he could be.

It wouldn't be easy. The road ahead was long and fraught with challenges. But for the first time since leaving Grom, Kai felt a sense of purpose settling over him like a mantle.

He would train hard. He would push himself to the limits. And he would find a way to wield his essence in service of the people, just as Magnus had done.

For in the end, that was what being a knight truly meant - not glory or accolades, but the simple, unwavering dedication to protect those who could not protect themselves.

Kai squared his shoulders, his steps growing more certain with each passing moment. He had a promise to keep, and he would not rest until he had fulfilled it.

The Knights of Solaris awaited, and with them, the chance to forge a new destiny.
