Chapter 22
David, a colleague, approached Oghene with a nervous smile. "Hey, Oghene, can I ask a favor?"
"Sure, what's up?" Oghene replied, curiosity piqued.
David hesitated, his eyes darting around the office. "I have a crush on Shelly. I know it's a long shot, but I was wondering if you could help me get her attention."
Oghene raised an eyebrow. "Shelly? She's a stunning beauty, and her charming personality has captured the attention of many men in the office."
David nodded, his face flushing. "I know, but I can't help how I feel. Will you help me out?"
Oghene agreed to help, and later that day, he approached Shelly's desk with a mix of trepidation and amusement.
"Hey Shelly, David asked me to talk to you. He wants to get to know you better," Oghene said, trying to sound casual.
Shelly's expression turned cold. "David? Please. I'm not interested."
Oghene shrugged. "Okay, no problem. I'll let him know."
But Shelly's next words left him taken aback.
"Oghene, I want you. Not David, not anyone else. You."
Oghene's heart skipped a beat. "Shelly, I love Stephanie. She's the only one for me."
Shelly's face contorted in anger. "I don't know what you see in that nonsense, dirty and useless cleaner!"
Oghene's temper flared, but he tried to calm down. "Stephanie is so special, and I care a lot about her, my heart belongs to her."
Shelly huffed and turned away, leaving Oghene feeling uneasy.
Back in the staff room, David approached Oghene, his eyes filled with hope. "So, what did Shelly say?"
Oghene hesitated, not wanting to crush David's spirits. "She's not interested, David. Sorry."
David's face fell, but Oghene quickly added, "But I'll still try to help you out. Maybe she just needs some time to think about it."
David nodded, a small sigh of relief escaping his lips. "Thanks, Oghene. I appreciate it."
As Oghene returned to his desk, he couldn't shake off the feeling that Shelly's words had left a lingering discomfort. He tried to focus on his work, but his mind kept wandering back to the unexpected turn of events.
Meanwhile, David couldn't help but feel a glimmer of hope. Maybe Shelly just needed some time to warm up to him. He made a mental note to try again soon.
As the day drew to a close, Oghene packed up his things and headed out of the office. He couldn't wait to see Stephanie and forget about the drama with Shelly.
But little did he know, Shelly's words would continue to haunt him, and David's crush would only intensify. The office dynamics were about to get even more complicated.
