Chapter 7 - "Words Of Wisdom"

Chapter 7

In the quietude of Jos, where the sun dipped behind the hills, casting a golden hue over the city, Stephanie found herself at the doorstep of her confidante, Dorcas. The weight of her secret affections for Oghene pressed heavily on her heart, a burden she could no longer bear alone.

Dorcas welcomed her with a warm embrace, the kind that speaks volumes without a single word. They settled into the cozy living room, a sanctuary of trust and understanding, where many of Stephanie's fears had been unraveled.

"Stephanie, what brings you here with such a troubled brow?" Dorcas inquired, her eyes reflecting concern.

"It's Oghene," Stephanie began, her voice barely above a whisper and tears in her eyes. "I find myself drawn to him, yet I'm shackled by a fear I can't seem to shake."

Dorcas listened intently, her presence a balm to Stephanie's unease. "Tell me about this fear," she urged gently.

Stephanie said sobbing "It's the fear of the unknown, the fear that my trust, once broken, might never mend," Stephanie confessed. "How do I navigate these waters, Dorcas? How do I know if he's the harbor or the storm?"

Dorcas pondered Stephanie's words, understanding the depth of her friend's turmoil. "Trust is like a seed, Stephanie. It needs time to grow, and it thrives on the nourishment of honesty and openness. Have you shared your past with Oghene?"

Stephanie shook her head, the shadows of old wounds flickering across her face. "I haven't. It's a chapter of my life I keep closed, even from the sunlight of his kindness."

"Then perhaps it's time to let the light in," Dorcas suggested. "Share your story with him, not as a test, but as a bridge. See if he walks across to meet you halfway."

The conversation flowed into the evening, with Dorcas offering words of wisdom interlaced with her own experiences. She spoke of vulnerability as a strength, of the courage it takes to let someone in, and of the beauty that lies in the risk of opening one's heart.

As the night drew to a close, Stephanie felt a newfound resolve stirring within her. She hugged Dorcas, gratitude shining in her eyes. "Thank you, my friend. Your counsel has given me clarity."

With the moon guiding her path, Stephanie walked home, her thoughts a tapestry of hope and apprehension. She knew the road ahead would be fraught with uncertainty, but she also knew that the journey of the heart was one worth taking.

As she lay in bed, the stars peeking through her window, Stephanie whispered a silent prayer for courage. Tomorrow, she would speak her truth to Oghene, and whatever the outcome, she would face it with the dignity of one who has loved sincerely.
