The carpenter was next to ask his question...
"I was inquiring on wether we are permitted to establish our own businesses within the camp?"
Zach smiled at this question,he did not expect it to be raised so early.
"Yes,as long you gather your own resources, you can opt to rent one of the shops,or even work from the backyard of your cabin..."
The people were happy to here this, but the next moment, their expression dropped...
"But you will have to hand over a certain percentage of your monthly earnings as taxes..."
Seeing their not so good faces,Zach decided to soften them a little bit...
"This percentage will be used to improve the living standards and infrastructure of the camp,as well as paying wages and running the territory..."
He gave them a minute to process his words, and seeing the acceptance on their faces,he decided to push most of them into renting the wooden cabins, there were a total of thirteen small wooden cabins at the moment...
"Also, those with cabins can grow gardens and rear poultry and a couple of livestock on their backyard, without any paying any extra cost..."
The two cooks who had no interest in renting a cabin at the moment were now interested.
At the end, eight of the remaining thirteen residents each applied for one of the smaller wooden cabins, their backyard was around five metres square, enough to grow a small garden and rear some poultry.
Next,he addressed the man in charge of rearing animals.
"I just wanted to inform that apart from the boars and piglets you instructed to be captured, two dozen chicken were brought over by the guards and we also have an additional two cows and one ox, capture by James and Wan..."
James and Wan were the two helpers who captured the docile cows and the ox.
"Ooh..."
Zach was happy to hear this,as it meant that he could now enjoy some milk and chicken eggs for breakfast.
"Go on..."
Zach let the man go on.
"The milk was delivered to the kitchen as there were no facilities to store it,as for the eggs, they were all delivered to the warehouse, Timothy made records of all entries..."
Zach was silent for a moment before he looked at the two helpers..
"Would you wish to sell the cows or keep them..."
The two men had already discussed it earlier on,and had decided to sell, but after hearing they could rear them without extra charges, they opted to keep a cow each and sell the ox.
"We will keep the cows and sell the ox..."
Wan said as he rose...
"Good..."
Zach said, though he felt dejected as he truly wanted to retain the two cows for milk.
"I have to hunt for more cows next time I venture into the forest..."
Zach added the cow hunt to his list of things to do...
"The ox will be bought for two hundred and fifty copper coins as for the poultry, since they were brought in by the guards during their patrol, each of them is worth one merit point."
"The merit points can be exchanged for extra weapons and equipment as well as cultivation resources and manuals..."
The two helpers were excited when they heard the amount of coins they would be receiving. Each of them was now a hundred and twenty-five copper coins richer. This was enough to place them on top of the guards, who were to receive a hundred copper coins.
Though they were not given the coins, they could exchange them for relevant goods.
Everyone, including the new residents, who had returned during the meeting had expectant looks on their faces.
If only they to could capture animals and sell them to Zach, they would earn enough to last them a couple of months. What they did not realize was that Zach paid such a high amount as to motivate more people to hunt for common beast as to increase the number of reared animals.
These would provide meat, eggs, milk, fur and hides for the daily consumption for the residents.
He also planned on taming some low stage spirit qi gathering realm beast for labour and materials.
Wan, passed his opportunity as his question had already been addressed. After dismissing the gathering,Zach headed to his cabin where he wrote down the available tasks and had Timothy pin them at the notice board.
He also prepared a catalog of everything present in the warehouse and the shop and had the relevant copies pinned on the notice board and the shop, the one at the shop had a price tag attached to everything.
He gave the residents enough time to settle into their new cabins and hostel, before heading to the warehouse, where most of the furniture he had made was stored.
Those who had rented cabins to exchange for sets of furniture, utensils and food stuff.
As for the cotton clothe, they could only be purchased at the tailor's shop. For his own shop,it was opened at dawn, after he reviewed all the applications of the new residents and found the teenage girl to be suitable for the task, she was to be helped by Timothy.
As for the new professions, one of the men was a carpenter, the other one was a cobbler. As for the women, one was a herbalist, she had the knowledge on most common herbs and hundreds of low ranked spirit herbs. She could also concoct common potions that were effective on mortals, but her knowledge lacked when it came to concocting spirit otions and refining spirit pills as she was just a mortal.
For one to concoct spirit potions or refine spirit pills, they needed to ignite a qi flame, and this could only be achieved by cultivators.
Zach was entertaining thoughts of nurturing her.
He went ahead and allocated one of the empty shops for her and had the gathered herbs delivered to her shop. She was given the right to purchase these herbs on behalf of Zach.
As for the second woman, she was an artist.Zach had her join the guards as as a cartographer and record keeper.
She was expected to keep records of the guards activity and contributions, their merit point and gather information on behalf of Zach. Because of the nature of her work,Zack bestowed her the title of lieutenant, though she had no men under her command.
Her wages were twice what the guards were receiving.
