Chapter 31 - Chapter 31-Surpassing the Takatori Brothers

Reha looked on in awe as the brothers stood fearlessly in the face of over two dozen Kingdom of Aces troops.

Their mana output was substantially larger than it had ever been. Even while training with them she had never seen them output so much. They stood next to each other as the enemy visibly cautious began to approach.

[' There's no way they don't sense it too. The unusual feeling their mana gives off...Such power."]

She had trained with them and seen them spar with hundreds of people. She thought she was used to seeing them use their magic. She thought she was used to seeing their superiority on display...Watching the enemies who ever never even seen them before, pace around cautiously. . .Another reminder.

They had drawn most of the enemy's attention now. They each had already taken out 5, they lay unconscious on the ground next to them. The Ace's troops in this sector were mostly made up of regular foot soldiers. . .Their captain had yet to be seen. . .Brandon deduced he probably resided near the back of the invasion.

[" Caldo will probably handle him."] Brandon's eyes looked past the wall of enemies to the raging flames behind them where Caldo had darted to right at the start of the battle. Bradnon examined the surrounding battlefield. The Emerald Kingdom's troops were mostly one this sector and most of the troops were simply awaiting the show from the brothers, making sure not to get in their way.[" Guess we should show them were the real deal."]

He looked back behind where Reha was standing. The look on her face was similar to the one she had when he spoke to her near the river. . .Like he had told her, he couldn't understand those emotions of hers, but. . .He wants her to know she isn't a burden to them in the slightest.

" Reha," He called back to her. Her eyes shifted from the ground to him. The look of disappointment strung across her face. " We need you. . .Stay focused." He then shot her a reassuring smile before turning his attention back to the enemies in front of him.

[ " I appreciate the kind Gesture. . .But-"]

" Hey," Zakcs voice burst into her doubtful thoughts. " That look doesn't suit you, nor this squad."

"...Huh?" Her face spelled out her confusion.

" I mean. . .Look at the squad it's full of handsome guys. I'm sure the women love it but the dudes need something to look at too!"

" Uh," She felt her face turn slightly red from embarrassment. " Tsck. You're really full of yourself huh. . .Handsome guys doesn't apply to you does it!?"

" Ha." He shot her a teasing smile. " I guess that's your opinion. . .Still, I feel like most guys would say you look much better the way you are right now." He turned his head back to the battlefield.

" You know." Brandon began to speak. " You don't seem to care about how other people are feeling. But you sure know how to clear someone's head."

A smile remained on Zacks's face. He wasn't good at understanding people, same as his brother. The only difference was that his brother was much better at simply trying to understand. Or understanding that he can't understand them. Zack usually didn't bother.

With Reha. . .He could tell she was feeling down or upset. While he didn't know why. He knew that it wasn't good for her to be in that state of mind. Especially while entering or being in battle. So he would resort to teasing, as it is always something they have done to each other...and it worked, right now she was completely overthinking that last comment.

"Let's go!" Brandon spoke as he lunged forward toward the enemy. Zack then followed as the enemies seeing their approach all began to charge them.

" Thwack, Thump, Thwash!!"

Three enemy soldiers leading the charge towards Brandon were knocked down to the floor. A soldier behind them reached Brandon and threw a punch.

" Swish!"

Brandon dodged it and caught the punch on the withdraw. Pulling the man into a right gut punch. He could hear the air exiting his body as he crumpled to the floor. Two other soldiers engaged one from the front and one flanked around to the back.

The front one threw a punch at his head. He leaned to the left causing the punch to miss and countered with a front kick. The soldier blocked it with his free arm but was sent sliding back into the crowd.

Brandon then sensed the build-up of mana from behind. The other was building up a strong attack, an attempt to kill him in one blow.

" Thwack"

Without even seeing him turn around. The soldier received a punch to the stomach and a follow-up to the face. Brandon's attention remained simply on the enemies in front of him.

" This dude can't kill." A soldier came sprinting from the back of the group sword in hand. " He's only knocking us out. . .He can't stain his hands with blood!" That was true. . .Up till this point, he had only knocked them out, and the enemy had noticed.

The enemy raced toward Brandon and brought his sword above his head. Confidence raged in his eyes as he swung with no regard for defense.

" Swish!" Brandon sidestepped and dashed back getting some distance. The soldier bolted after him again with no regard for defense, he didn't care if he was knocked unconscious. Unfortunately for him...He had been wrong.

" Shwim" The multi-colored mana glowed brightly and funneled into Brandon's right hand. He then dug his foot into the soft dirt and dashed forward with speed unforeseeable to the average soldier.

" Shink!!"

The blade passed through the soldier with zero effort. Brandon now stood behind him. The onlooking soldiers were left confused as they had only just realized he had cut him. The man clung to life as he took a few small steps forward holding his wound.

" Swish!"

Bradnon then suddenly turned around gaining momentum in his swing. The blade of his straight sword cut cleanly through the dying soldier's neck.....An act of mercy, and a message.

" It's not that I wasn't willing to kill you [ I understood war required suck acts of violence. . .Perhaps I was too quick to understand this compared to others. Or were they too slow."] His eyes looked around the battlefield at the countless bodies. All the ones who were now dead. Probably failed to understand the necessary violence needed to survive the war.

" I simply didn't see the point in ending the lives of the tools to the true evil wielding them." He continued. " But if you are going to attempt to take me and my friend's lives." His silver eyes seemed to glow filled with a violent intent. " Then I won't hesitate."

That multicolored mana began to spin around him again. This time much darker and the colors all seemed to resemble different shades of red. The group of enemy soldiers all took a step back before one who couldn't hold back his words spoke.

" What the hell is that." The feeling of strength it gave off earlier. Now it gave off the feeling of imminent death. Bradons eyes shifted to the right side of the group. Where Zack was engaged in combat further in. His mana remained that same bright multicolored mana.

" Our magic will surpass even that of the Takatori brothers. We will set the new standard for greatness in this world." He then took a ready stance bringing his sword up and resting it on his shoulder while leaning forward. " I can see it all. All of the mana that surrounds us."

The brother's magic is something incomprehensible to the normal people of this world. . .Mana flowers everywhere, but that mana is only released by humans. On a battlefield like this, Mana is being constantly released into the surrounding area, mostly by the deaths of soldiers.

In towns or cities, it applies as well. As everyone has mana but those who cannot control it will release mana as well. This plays massively into the brother's hereditary magic. The ability to visualize all the mana in the air and manipulate it freely.

The soldiers who seemingly collapsed to an unknown force were actually struck by fee going mana in the air. Mana isn't physically, outside of when it is initially expelled from the body, but for the brothers, it is possible to make it a physical form when they choose.

They can see the mana with their eyes. The mana within the enemy, and the free mana in the air as it is let off from a being. They can then bend that mana to their will without even touching it. All they have to do is understand the properties of the manipulation.

This allowed the brothers to throw strikes using an invisible force none of them could see. Making it possibly the most lethal weapon on the battlefield. . and they have still yet to master it. . .Hereditary magic is mastered under manifestation, and that still applies. But they have to figure out their limits when it comes to how they manipulate mana.

Brandon Nor Zack has found its limitations. . meaning this ability could possibly have destructive capabilities far surpassing any explosive casts of fire magic. They have each made it their goal to reach the rights of the Takatori brothers and then surpass them.

They will be regarded as the greatest ever. The strongest. Brandon has set that goal for both of them. They are now showing off how far they have come since setting that goal.
