A fresh wave of fear clawed at me. Ryder was still out there, somewhere, with a power that none of us fully understood. And that thing—whatever it was—had just released something that could destroy us all.
But before I could focus on that, the ground swayed beneath me. My vision blurred, my knees buckling.
"Dante, you're hurt!" Jackson lunged toward me, he grabbed my arm with a very strong grip, yet I could feel the tremor in his hands.
"I'm fine," I lied,I tried to shake him off. But my strength was waning as I was feeling the burn in my veins, the clear sign of wolfsbane coursing through my body. The scent of it clung to my clothes, a bitter memory of how close I had come to death.
"We have to get you back," Jackson insisted.. "You're poisoned. You're not going to make it if we stay here."
I wanted to fight, to push on, but I couldn't deny the truth. Every breath was pain. I nodded reluctantly. "Let's go."
