Chapter 48 - The Ball

Lexzandra draped a silk robe over her white dress and, with Lucy's assistance, made her way to Baron Ferguson's quarters.

The corridors seemed longer than usual, every step echoing with her lingering fatigue, but determination fueled her resolve.

Within minutes, they reached his doorstep. Lucy knocked gently before opening the door, which startled the Baron, who had been resting. His hair was tousled, and there was a faint shadow of stubble on his chin.

Baron Ferguson's eyes widened in surprise as he saw Lexzandra standing there. He quickly scrambled to his feet, offering a deep bow. "Your Highness," he stammered, "I had heard about your condition. How are you feeling?"

Lexzandra took a deep breath, steadying herself. "I'm feeling better, thank you," she replied, her voice a bit more steady than she felt.

She glanced around the room, her eyes falling on the canvas draped with a red cloth.
