I flew into the city and noticed a large amount of buildings were destroyed and found the people in a panic.
Smack dab in its center, cracks ran through the space as it's fissures extended into the sky and earth giving it the feeling of a giant spider web made in the very space.
Right in front of it was Katarina who was facing the scene with a frown on her face as magic circles rotated around her.
"Hey." I kicked against the air and lowered my speed and began fluttering my legs to remain in the air.
"You're back." Katarina didn't even glance at me and I looked in her eyes and saw magic circles in her irises and knew something was up.
"What happened here?" I gestured towards the crack and received a single response.
"Compound magic."
The power behind a single compound magic was so strong even I wouldn't come off unscathed if I took it head on.
Not to mention that it also locks down in space itself which makes it super hard to dodge.
"What? Who?" I asked before realising how that sounded.
If there was a fight and Katarina was standing fine and dandy, then it was obvious who cast the spell.
"Just what kind of opponent did you fight?"
"There was this guy that had a robe that allowed him to slip between dimensions. It seemed like it would be a pain if he were to continue so I hit him with a spell capable of destroying dimensions."
You know, I'd like to think I'm pretty strong, but even I would find it hard to casually say I destroyed a dimension like it's no big deal.
"But something's off. Even when I made the preparations for the spell, the person didn't even attempt to move and just let my spell slam into him." Katarina frowned and I raised my hand and said,
"Are you sure the person wasn't just scared stiff?"
"Eh?"
"I mean, perhaps the person was just a small fry and the only thing special about him or her was just the robe."
"Ah." Realization dawned on Katarina and I broke into a laugh and almost fell down as I stopped flapping my legs.
What? It's rare that the all composed Katarina makes a mistake like this. I have to savour the moment.
"Fireball." But someone didn't and a ball of flames slammed into my side and reduced my shirt to ashes leaving only a bare chested kid hovering in the sky while flapping this legs.
"I'm sure no one would pay money to see that." I murmured and looked at Katarina with resentment and she simply stick out her tongue and teleported to the ground.
"Sigh, as frustrating as always." I stopped flapping my legs and plummeted to the ground.
Don't worry, I'm not committing suicide.
...
"You could have left a shirt for me, you know." I complained as I put on a shirt that after pleading with Katarina, she bestowed upon me.
"I didn't want to, so I didn't." Haughty as always.
"So, what's you're plan for dealing with this crack?" I asked her.
"And why do you assume that I have a solution for it?"
"You never make a move without being at least three steps ahead of yourself. It may have exceeded your expectations slightly but I'm sure you have something in reserve." I was pretty confident in my reasoning and was satisfied when she nodded .
"Have you tried healing the worlds before?"
"Huh?"
...
"So you want me to use my healing magic to heal the space around this area? Yep, impossible." I shook my head as I heard her plan.
Healing people is one thing and healing the world is another.
I can only heal what I can interact with so healing something like space is definitely beyond the current me.
"It's not like I'm asking you to do it by yourself." Katarina said and laid out her plan.
Apparently, she got a magic that allows one to modify the magic of others but it cannot be used on one's self. Her plan was to apply the spatial attribute to my healing magic and I would pump it into the cracks in an attempt to heal the space.
"And you're sure this would work."
"According to my calculations, we should be able to pull it off. Only problem is that we would be completely defenceless in the process."
"Ah." So that was what she was going for.
There was no way Katarina would say something like that in public unless to do something.
Bait anyone who may be after us. Her telling me the 'plan' was her signal for me to play along.
"But don't you think we should rest up and arrange a barrier?" Translation: I got the message.
"No time. We have to finish this before the enemy strikes again." Translation: Good. Be on alert for the enemy.
"Okay." Translation: Okay.
I got ready and faced my plan against the space crack and let my mana flow through me.
I felt something warm press against my back and a mysterious force passed through my body and interacted with my mana directly.
Not wanting to miss this chance, I directed half my attention to monitoring the change in my manva and using the other half to actually carry out the task given to me.
Little by little, the space crack healed up from the point my palm was facing and as soon as we got to the halfway point, the people we were waiting for attacked.
