It had been six long years since Bruce had last seen Marian.
He didn't even regret his actions, but he had become all alone. The woman he had originally wanted had run away, and her sister came in her place.
He became a workaholic, drowning himself completely in work to forget the troubles he had been through. It wasn't easy, living with the pain of not being with the woman he really loved.
"Sir, someone is here to see you," his personal assistant told him. He looked surprised, as he almost never had visitors except his business associates.
"Who is it?" "I have no idea, sir." He nodded, "Okay, I'll be there." He sighed. After double-checking his work, he stood up and headed downstairs, curious about who his visitor was.
He entered the living room, but didn't see who his 'visitor' was at first. Instead, he saw three children running around - two boys and a girl. He frowned, "What is the meaning of this?" He asked them. They all stopped playing and stood, looking at him.
"Who are you guys? What are you doing here?" "Our mother brought us here," the eldest spoke up. He raised an eyebrow, "I see. Why did she bring you here? Who is she?" They all shrugged, "She's our mother, alright, but we have no idea why she brought us here. She just told us to play while she went out." He held his head in frustration - who would bring children to his house?!
"Listen, kids, you're causing a nuisance here, and I don't want it. You should go outside and wait till your mother picks you up." He warned them and turned around. The children were amused and exchanged glances; they only laughed and continued their running around. Bruce turned around in disbelief - they didn't listen! He walked towards them in a fit of rage and grabbed the eldest, turning him around sharply.
But he was taken aback - those eyes... They looked so familiar, like a version of... himself. He blinked, lost in the child's eyes.
He shook his head and turned to face the other children, who were equally staring at him. Each of their eyes looked exactly like his - blueberry eyes. He let go of the child's hand, "Who... who... are you guys? Where is your mother?" He asked shakily. The girl pointed to someone at the door. He slowly turned around and saw a lady standing there.
His jaws dropped - it was Marian! There was something quite different about her - her dress, her aura, her confidence, and the way her usually fearful eyes gleamed with confidence.
He stood up and stared. "Surprise, surprise!" She spread her arms. The children ran to meet her, and she embraced them. "Ma-rian? How... is this possible?" He stared in shock. She looked up at him, holding her children's hands, and walked up to him. "Hello, Mr. Anderson. It's so nice to meet you again." She greeted him with a sarcastic smile.
He blinked in confusion, "What's going on?" "Oh? Are you still confused? You should have probably seen it for yourself." Her smile disappeared.
He shook his head slowly, "It... can't be." Her lips curved up into a smile, "Do you believe everything I told you all those years ago?" She smirked. He looked at the children, who were staring back at him with 'his own eyes'.
He gulped down nervously, "How, when did this even happen?" She looked at her kids, "Children, you'd like to go see the garden, right? Just go outside and check it out." They all giggled, one after the other, and ran out of the living room.
She faced him, "So, you really thought I'd sleep with someone else?" He was short of words and couldn't find an answer. He slowly shook his head, confused. "Those are your children." There was a long pause, a very long and tense one. "My children? I have kids? How come?" He was still shaking in disbelief. "Ugh... you still ain't gonna believe me? Well, that's okay; I'm not here because of you anyway." She turned, "It's a good thing you divorced me. It led to what I am today."
"I would have been a cage probably if I hadn't divorced you." She smiled, "So I'm free to be the woman I want to be." She faced him with a wild grin. Bruce could see clearly that she wasn't the same at all. She had grown a lot more confident and fierce.
"Marian..." He called. She looked at him, "Mmh?" "Is this some kind of blackmail?" She rolled her eyes angrily, "I saw your reaction when you held Jonah; you were surprised... because... he looked like you, hun? What else am I blackmailing you for?" She shrugged. He held his head, still shocked, the truth of the matter weighing on him.
"This is so hard to believe." He muttered. "You better believe it." She smirked. She turned and headed to the door, "Anyway, enjoy the rest of the day because very soon they'll become restless." She laughed and went out of the living room.
She was determined to ruin his life; he had made her feel so worthless, as if she was trash all along. Her kids came running to her, "Mommy, is that man really our father?" Jonah asked.
Marian nodded sadly, "He was supposed to be. But unfortunately, something along the line happened." She sighed.
"How come he doesn't live with us?" Janet, her daughter, asked her.
"I'm sorry, Janet, but I can't tell you now; you won't understand." Marian smiled at her daughter, her eyes expressionless with no emotions inside of her.
Joshua blinked, "Mommy, so we get to stay with him?" He asked, but Marian shook her head in disagreement .
"No, I just came to pay him a visit; he doesn't need to stay with us." She said with a mean smile on her face.
She came back to seek revenge, and she was definitely going to make Bruce pay dearly.
