Anna's face turned bright red. "I'm a big girl now! I won't wet the bed!" she protested.
Indra chuckled and pulled the truck up to a small hotel. The truth was, he had no idea how to get to New York or how far away it was. But he wasn't worried; with his luck, he would eventually find his way. For now, he decided to get some food and rest.
As they stepped out of the truck and entered the hotel, Indra noticed a striking blonde woman standing at the entrance. He frowned. It seemed unusual for such a remote, rundown hotel to have such an attractive receptionist, as it clearly wasn't doing well enough to afford one, especially one as beautiful as her.
Just as he was pondering this, the woman approached with a smile. "Welcome, honored guest. We've been expecting you."
Expecting me? Indra thought, his frown deepening.
The woman continued, "My name is Lisa. I'm your assistant at this hotel. Let me show you to your room." She gestured politely for them to follow her.
Though curious, Indra didn't hesitate and followed her inside. He wasn't worried about any potential danger. Anna trotted beside him, whispering, "Brother, you're amazing. You know such a pretty lady."
Indra smiled.
Indra chuckled and said, "You'll grow up to be just as beautiful as she is." As the three of them stepped into the elevator, Lisa, facing away from Indra, pressed the button and said, "Sir, someone has already booked this entire hotel for you. You can stay as long as you like. We'll deliver breakfast, lunch, and dinner to your room. If you need anything else..."
Their room was on the third floor—a large, luxurious single room with all the amenities, including a soft, two-meter-wide bed. Indra was surprised that such a small hotel had such a lavish room. It seemed it had been specially prepared for him, which indicated that whoever was looking for him had gone to great lengths.
"Sir, this is your room," Lisa said flatly, a hint of awkwardness lingering in the air. "Please take your room key." She handed it over.
Indra took the key, their fingers brushing momentarily, causing Lisa's face to flush slightly before she gave him another glare. Indra sighed and shot a stern look at Anna, thinking, he is just decent guy, and this kid is ruining his reputation.
Anna stuck out her tongue and looked down. Indra sighed again and said, "You'll stay with me."
Although he hadn't initially wanted to bring Anna along, now that she was with him, he felt responsible for her safety. Leaving a young girl alone in a hotel room at night didn't seem right.
"If there's nothing else, sir, I'll take my leave," Lisa's voice broke his train of thought. Indra nodded, and as Lisa turned to go, she suddenly spun around and gave him a quick pat on the butt, giving him a playful look before leaving the room.
Indra stood there, stunned. What just happened?
"Anna, maybe you should stay in a separate room after all," he said with a chuckle.
Living alone might not be so bad, he thought. It would be good for her to build some courage. But Anna looked up at him with wide, innocent eyes and asked, "Brother, are you going to fight with that lady later?"
Indra coughed and looked at her in surprise. "Where did you learn to say things like that at such a young age?"
Anna grinned mischievously. "My mom and dad fight all the time."
Indra sighed, "You know too much for your age."
Anna clenched her little fists and gave him a playful cheer before running out of the room.
The next morning, Indra was ready to leave the hotel with Anna. As they stepped outside, he noticed a black Rolls-Royce Phantom parked at the entrance. A man in a crisp black suit and white gloves emerged from the car.
Upon seeing Indra, the man bowed respectfully and said, "Sir, I am here to take you back to New York."
Indra raised an eyebrow. He knew well that such courtesy was rarely without motive. Whoever this mysterious benefactor was, they clearly wanted something from him. But what could anyone possibly want from him, especially someone he had just encountered here? S.H.I.E.L.D.? Unlikely. If it were S.H.I.E.L.D., Black Widow would be the one standing here, given their fondness for psychological tactics.
His curiosity piqued, Indra decided to play along. After all, there was nothing to lose. With such lavish hospitality and a luxurious ride, why not? He got into the Rolls-Royce.
Anna, standing at the hotel's entrance, pointed at Lisa and asked, "Brother, aren't you going to bring her along?"
Indra glanced at Lisa, who was smiling flirtatiously at him, and shook his head. "No, she's more trouble than she's worth."
Anna nodded, scampered into the car, and then looked at Indra with wide, innocent eyes. "Brother, is that lady good at fighting?"
Indra coughed and said, "That's not something you should be concerned about at your age."
Anna pouted, "But I'm grown up now! I can fight with you too!"
Indra felt exasperated. What on earth? Is it my problem or hers?
Seeing Anna's pouty, adorable face, Indra quickly shook his head. When he didn't respond to her, Anna turned away, pretending to sulk. But children's tantrums are short-lived. Soon enough, she was captivated by the car's interior. "Brother, is this your car? It's so beautiful! You're amazing!"
Indra shook his head. "No, it's not."
Anna, puzzled, asked, "If it's not your car, why did you get in?"
Indra smiled, "Why pass up a ride when it's offered?"
After a moment, he added, "But remember, you shouldn't get into strangers' cars. Bad people might take you away."
Anna shivered, recalling her recent ordeal. After a moment, she leaned closer to Indra and whispered, "But why did you get into a stranger's car? Aren't you afraid of bad people?"
Indra shook his head. "I'm not afraid. I'm just lucky."
