"Boom!"
Immediately, there was another loud explosion.
We couldn't stay still anymore. Even Li Jianguo quickly put on his jacket and ran to the window to look outside.
The rain kept pouring.
The lanterns on the playground were blown around by the wind, and a few streetlights had been uprooted by a sudden tornado earlier in the night.
"The explosion came from outside the park gates..." Screwdriver said excitedly as he stood next to me.
Could it be a war?
The four of us crowded around the small window, stretching our necks to see the stormy KK Park outside.
In reality, all we could hear were the sounds of the raging storm and explosions. We couldn't see anything clearly.
At best, we could vaguely see, through the distant floodlights, the thugs with guns rushing towards the gate.
"Boom boom"
There were noises upstairs too, likely the chaotic footsteps of the captives.
Everyone was probably watching the situation.
Screwdriver was the first to react, "Brothers, sounds like a war. Get ready to escape in the chaos!"
Ba Yi asked, "What about Spanner and Qiang?"
"They'll catch up. Let's pack first."
I quickly pulled out a cardboard box from under the bed and started emptying out the guns, bullets, and anti-inflammatory medicines.
Screwdriver and Ba Yi immediately joined in to pack the escape supplies.
After tucking the handgun into my waistband, I picked up a small cloth bag and turned to ask Li Jianguo, who looked grim, "Are you coming?"
"Yes!" His tone was firm. He was willing to do anything and take any risks for revenge.
"Alright, this fruit knife is yours."
Li Jianguo didn't use guns, preferring knives. He said he wanted to personally cut down his enemies and make them suffer.
I handed him the knife and immediately opened the dorm door slightly to check the situation outside.
It seemed like a war had broken out. There wasn't a single patrolling thug in the corridor. Instead, people from the opposite and adjacent dorms had opened their doors and rushed out.
A man from the dorm opposite us ran out and asked, "Are we escaping?"
"What do you think?" Even at this moment, I couldn't let my guard down and ambiguously retorted with my head sticking out.
"Why are you talking to him? He's competing tomorrow. Looks like there's a war outside, we should escape!"
A man behind him pushed him and ran towards the stairs.
"Wait for me!" He hesitated for a moment before following.
Once one person leads, many others will follow.
In less than three minutes, the entire floor of captives was shouting and rushing out.
We locked our door and followed them downstairs to find out what was happening.
We weren't sure of the current situation in the park. If we rushed to the gate recklessly and got shot, it would be a meaningless death.
We also didn't know what was happening with Yanzi; she hadn't called in days.
The rain poured harder, and the sounds of explosions and gunfire outside grew more intense. We could even see flashes of fire outside the park.
At this moment, the captives from upstairs also rushed downstairs, all crowding in the first-floor hallway, staring at the heavy rain.
"There's a war outside! Let's escape home!!"
Someone shouted, and the crowd that was hesitating suddenly rushed out into the rain.
"Aren't you escaping?" A man suddenly turned and asked me.
"Uh..." I leaned against the wall, momentarily speechless.
We were just waiting here for Spanner, Chen Weiqiang, and Abu. How could we not escape?
We just couldn't go with the crowd.
"Don't mind him, they're Liu Eleven's dogs! Let's run!"
Another man dragged the one who questioned me and ran towards the gate.
Just as we were about to go to Chen Weiqiang's dorm, we saw the three of them rushing over.
"Is there a war outside?" I grabbed Spanner and asked anxiously.
"Yes, we need to escape through the bamboo forest. Time is tight, let's go!"
Spanner's AK was wrapped in a plastic bag to avoid water damage.
The seven of us, under the cover of darkness and heavy rain, dashed towards the bamboo forest in the burial area.
The electrical box had been blown up three minutes ago. Spanner said it was sabotaged by another group trying to escape.
Though we didn't know which forces were fighting outside the gate, we could tell it was intense.
I couldn't look for Sister Yu anymore. We had to escape first. Otherwise, if Ace's people came to bind me in the morning, there would be no chance to run.
As we passed the crocodile pool, I noticed it had overflowed. Some people tried to climb the wall through the pool but miscalculated and ended up as crocodile food.
"Boom!"
Another deafening explosion echoed.
Mixed with the rapid "dada" sound of machine guns.
"Everyone, listen up! Return to your dorms immediately, or you'll be shot! Patrol teams, drive them back to the dorms..."
Liu Eleven's furious voice blared through the loudspeakers in KK Park, but his words were cut off abruptly as the power went out.
The generator had been blown up again.
The park was plunged into darkness.
"Ahhh!"
Screams pierced the rainy night as someone trying to rush out got shot by the troops outside the gate.
When we reached the burial area, we found a dozen people by the electric fence, with a man cutting the wire mesh.
"Anuo?" Spanner shone his flashlight and exclaimed in surprise.
What was he doing here? Shouldn't he be suppressing the rioting captives?
I glanced at Li Jianguo, whose fruit knife had yet to see blood. It was a kitchen knife I had snuck out last week for peeling fruit.
But Li Jianguo's attention wasn't on me. He was staring at the electric fence as if it would lead him to his wife's killer.
The seven or eight male captives and two pretty female captives, seeing us, shrank back in fear.
Anuo snapped out of it and asked, holding his AK, "Are you...escaping?"
"Aren't you?" Spanner quietly cocked his gun, ready to fire at any moment.
"I..." Anuo glanced at the two young women, at a loss for words.
No need for him to explain. I understood. He likely fancied these new college girls and planned to hide them outside.
As for the boys, they were probably there for labor, just tools to be discarded.
"Is it done yet? We're running out of time!"
Screwdriver didn't hesitate and picked up the wire cutters, getting to work.
In three minutes, he had cut a big hole in the wire fence.
Enough for an adult to crawl through each time.
No wonder he was once a soldier; he worked with lightning speed.
During this, Anuo stayed silent and still, likely intimidated by our numbers.
We all stood in the storm, staring at each other.
