After half an hour of sparring on the open grass, the three of us went to rest under the shade of a tree.
To my surprise, Abu knew Burmese boxing and even taught me how to counter it. His style was different from Ma Dinglun's, likely due to their differing temperaments.
Ma Dinglun was aggressive and ruthless, making his Burmese boxing deadly and impatient. This is why he couldn't withstand my attacks and ended up with two broken ribs.
On the other hand, Abu joined the park's security team to support his family, so his fighting style was much softer. This allowed me to learn different aspects of the art.
The Mid-Autumn Festival match was approaching, and the combat training Ace talked about while I was in the hospital turned out to be a bluff. The so-called combat areas in the park were just makeshift gyms for the security teams and the local border guards.
Most of the thousands of people there couldn't fight. The only decent fighter, the Thai bodyguard Paitun, had already been sent back home by me. Liu Shiyi even got scolded by Brother Ning because of this.
"Brother Bu, I still don't understand. I killed Paitun, but instead of scolding me, the boss scolded Liu Shiyi and didn't even meet me," I said, wiping the sweat from my forehead.
Abu thought for a moment and said, "Maybe he didn't want to see you because he's also Chinese."
"The boss of the Victory Park is Chinese? I always thought he was a local! That whole 'Chinese don't cheat Chinese' thing is bullshit!" Screwdriver exclaimed, his jaw dropping. He had been in Myawaddy for less time than I had and knew even less about some things.
"Yes, our boss is Chinese. I heard he's China's most wanted criminal. Everyone calls him Brother Ning. That's all I know," Abu said.
"Ning… China's most wanted." I wasn't sure if it was the same person I had in mind. There were many criminals with the same name, and those running illegal operations here usually had fake identities. I would need to see him in person to confirm.
"It seems a car is coming," Screwdriver said, making a shushing gesture and aiming his gun towards the cliff below.
Earlier, we jumped out of the car at the bend, entered the forest slope to meet Abu, then moved 10 kilometers and set up an ambush at a cliff. This spot was close to Myawaddy town, well-hidden, and had multiple escape routes.
We held our breath, lying in the grass behind the cliff, watching the convoy approaching. Near dusk, only vehicles from the Victory Park would be using this route. During the day, it was mostly locals or trucks delivering food to the park.
Without binoculars or a gun, I lay behind the bushes, observing with the naked eye. From the park's route, five black Mercedes SUVs were approaching, with a bright red Porsche in the middle.
"Not good," Abu said quietly, putting down his binoculars. "The red Porsche has the woman you hate most. Cai the Dog is in the second-to-last Mercedes, and the last one carries the auction girl."
"Brother, who should we shoot first? Should I take out Cai's car, and you the last one?" Screwdriver aimed at the approaching convoy, unsure who to target first.
Lying on the ground, I stared hatefully at the red Porsche in the distance, feeling the pain of countless lives lost. Lulu was right there. One pull of Screwdriver's trigger could end her life and avenge Chen Weiqiang and me completely…
"Chinese brother, who to kill?" Abu confirmed again.
Who to kill? This question weighed heavily on my mind.
Screwdriver released the rifle safety and growled, "Decide quickly, or they'll pass."
After two seconds of thought, I bit down on my hand, closed my eyes, and said, "…Kill Cai and his bodyguards!"
Lulu, consider yourself lucky. Today, you get to live. But I will make you pay back in the future!
I clenched the unfamiliar soil beneath me, swallowing this deep-seated hatred for now.
"Bang! Bang!" Two gunshots shattered the evening silence. The front tires of Cai's Mercedes burst, causing it to veer into the rocks. The car behind couldn't react in time and crashed into it.
"Bang!" Both cars came to a halt.
"Bang, bang, bang," more shots rang out, shattering the Mercedes' gas tank and windows into shards.
Lulu's convoy at the front reacted quickly, shooting back and ensuring her safe retreat from the road.
"Retreat!" Abu and Screwdriver retracted their guns, and we quickly withdrew into the forest. The cliff we had ambushed from was over ten meters high, covered in moss and thorns. Climbing up to pursue us would be challenging for them.
Moreover, Lulu's bodyguards wouldn't risk their lives to climb after us just to catch Cai's assailants.
We had enough time to escape.
Thanks to Spanner arranging Abu's help, otherwise, Screwdriver and I might have gotten lost.
"Boom!" After running about three hundred meters, we heard a deafening explosion behind us.
"Hey, the car blew up," Screwdriver said, carrying his gun while running. He seemed particularly excited, especially about killing such scum.
He had fired several shots just now, all hitting their marks. If not for Abu calling for retreat, he would have continued targeting them.
We were hidden, on higher ground, and not in a war, so we didn't fear snipers retaliating.
"It truly wiped out the evidence. By the way, about that last car…"
Though I felt the auction woman was innocent, the harsh reality left no choice.
"I also shot the gas tank of Cai's car. For the last car, I killed the driver and a bodyguard, leaving the auction woman."
Abu's idea was to see if Lulu's group would take advantage of this or if the big boss would seize the opportunity, making the attackers' identities more mysterious.
Since Cai had been attacked before, outsiders would likely suspect his enemies in Kokang or allies with conflicting interests.
From here to Myawaddy town was about ten kilometers. Fortunately, Abu, being a local, led us through the dark, eerie forest as if on flat ground.
"Brother Knife, are you planning to escape?" I asked, tugging on the suddenly stationary Screwdriver.
"…" Screwdriver said nothing, staring blankly at Abu and me. Now that we had secretly left the park and had guns, it was a perfect chance to escape.
If Abu tried to stop us, his fate was clear.
