"Haaah, I just can't anymore. Haah, I just want to sleep the day away." Wrys felt his eyes dropping despite it being just a bit before noon and having slept for eight hours. He moved his mouse ready to check out for his lunch break only to have his entire body tense up. He fell to the ground achieving that eternal rest or he should have if there hadn't been interference. Though one could argue he was in that state because of said interference in the first place.
It was at exactly the same time across the world when 149 other individuals all fell over dead at once as if they were puppets with their strings cut out. This would later become known as the Strike of Lethargy.
As his soul was pulled along to be judged for the afterlife Reuben with those 149 others were dragged into a white room with the walls practically shining. He reflected on his life and how while he was neither fortunate or unfortunate the main time he excelled or considered himself to excel would be the days of his middle school years. He tried recalling more of his memories quickly finding himself unable to recall any names other than his own. The faces of friends and family were blurred in his own memory. Many of his other memories quickly became obscured as well behind a fog like veil which he couldn't break through.
"Alright~ Everyone look at this definition of beauty can you? And yes I'll gladly let people monologue on how I'm a universe toppling Jade beauty." A few of the souls looked at the proclaimed Goddess and approached her like devoted followers, some looked like they were even drooling.
The Goddess did have looks to back her up having cyan lilac purple hair, golden eyes, and proportions that practically screamed busty anime girl.
"Umu- Give this Goddess all of your Worship!" Before she could continue a more defined figure whispered to her and handed over a clipboard. There was a barely discernable click of the tongue as the clipboard was thrown away.
"Alright you trashy mortals, congratulations on dying! As a reward you are given three options since you all suffered from extreme lethargy which was no fault of your own.
A screen appeared showing the three options:
1. Have the soul shatter to never experience rebirth or reincarnation of any kind.
2. Agree to reincarnate or transmigrate into a personal world of this Goddess.
3. Be reborn on earth, but have a life destined for nothing other than pure suffering that will be prolonged until death by old age.
"Now then do we have any idiots wanting to try option one or two?" Oddly enough one of the 150 souls floated forward and after staring at the Goddess for a few seconds her face was scowling. "You are demanding that I restore you back to earth without the lethargy? Trying to order me, a Goddess!? I don't need someone like you nor does any world." The snap of a finger could be heard before that soul began to contort and a sound like pieces of metal constantly grating together could be heard until the soul shattered like a piece of glass china that was smashed by a hammer.
"Now then, I'm assuming the rest of you 149 souls are ready to choose. All you need to do is think about your choice and I will hear it."Â
Reuben didn't take long to come to a decision. *I wish to reincarnate or transmigrate into that personal world.* A few seconds passed and the Goddess was smiling once more. "Good, good the rest of you have all made a unanimous decision. Now then I'll tell you a little bit about this world of mine."
After a snap of her fingers a globe that resembled Earth in just about every way had appeared. The difference was the size with everything seeming to have been scaled upwards. Reuben stared hard at that globe not wanting to forget a detail considering the context before it was shown.
"I will say it not since quite a few of you are thinking along the same lines. This is not the Earth you knew. This is a replica of the planet that I then scaled up." While the various souls didn't have expressions the feelings of shock could be perceived from a vast majority of them.
*A replica? Why didn't she make an entirely different planet?* Apparently quite a few of the other souls must of thought along a similar vein as the Goddess began to speak once more.
"Fufu, there are many reasons for the differences. The most important being that I have my own goals for you souls and a small world wouldn't prove conductive. There is also the case that humans aren't the only members of a sentient and intelligent species."
*Alright, though does she not want to answer the question?* "I see a few of you that are smarter than others while others are a bit lacking. I suppose I should move onto the most important part." Once more the Goddess snapped her fingers causing the globe to fade away and a transparent screen appeared in front of each of the souls.
*Forcibly unlocked? Is this Goddess a Karmic Cultivator? Does she want us to follow her footsteps?* Reuben found himself freezing up after thinking that as he felt the Goddess practically boring into him with her gaze. His soul itself was about to start sweating in a sense when the gaze was shifted to a few of the other souls giving them a similar fright.
"Before you all start browsing the ways you will be able to cultivate, I want you to listen to me. I don't care how you choose to cultivate or how you might treat the denziens of this world as long as their numbers stay above a certain point. I will be having you all promise to at the very least be neutral and owe me a favor if you ever get strong enough to leave my world and choose to do so." For once the Goddess had sounded completely serious without there being any form of joking present.
*Is she trying to create allies and subordinates? Why did she say it like we would make the decision later on and not now?*
"Stop thinking on it all you lot. Your puny mortal souls will only need to worry once you get stronger and can be of use to me. Otherwise you will simply serve as entertainment." Almost all at once each soul shuddered at the word entertainment as they realized just how low they were currently.
"Oh right I suppose you need this to decide what species you would be born as ... and there!"
"You all have a job to do, you will choose your species, you will choose your type of cultivation, you will choose whether to transmigrate or reincarnate and then you will inform me of that decision with a declaration in your thought." It didn't seem like she was going to stop this explanation as she kept talking.
"Reincarnating would have me giving you protection until you reach the age or 13 or begin the path of Cultivation. This is because it the age where I can guarantee it will be safe for even the weakest to begin. Or if you transmigrate then your body will be that of a 16 year old, you will have protection for 3 years or until you begin to cultivate. My protection will prevent you from dying or being abducted and restrained for more than a month a time. Right one last thing, choosing transmigration would limit how much you can cultivate. You would only be able to achieve 4 wing strength on the Karmic or its equivalent."
Looking at the souls with a haughty look in her eyes she sat done on a throne. "Now dive into your systems and then make your decisions. I will not tell you where each species might have you sent to. I do guarantee that none of you will be a royal by birth and all of you will be born into or sent into groups, families, or clans with similar strength at the start."
Silence reigned for a few seconds before a declaration was issued. "What are you lot waiting for? Start looking at what you have been provided and make your decisions or I will make them for you."
With those words all the souls bursted into action at once.
