They stood frozen, their hearts still pounding in their chests like drums. The howl came again, closer this time, sending a wave of terror through them, maybe it was what zilia was thinking.
It was obvious that another wolf was approaching, and there was nowhere for them to run this time, they began to huddle around again, preparing for the worst.
Because, certainly, there was no way out, as the trees were too dense, and the underbrush where too thick as well. They were certainly trapped, what else could be worst?
All of a sudden, the howling stopped. A deafening silence descended on the forest, so heavy that it seemed to weigh down on their shoulders. They held their breath, waiting for the next sound.
"Wait, did you guys hear that?" Serinal whispered, her voice shaking, she had to ask to be sure that she wasn't the only one hearing the howling.
"Yes, I heard it," Jonas replied, his own voice was quite trembling."It's getting closer, guys just stay close, no one should move okay!"
The howls came again, this time from two different directions. Their eyes darted around, trying to figure out where the damn wolves were coming from.
Now it was two? What else could they fall into, the forest before them was so dense that it was impossible to tell which way this predators where coming from.
"Alright, we need to get the hell out of here," Jonas admitted, his voice sounding really urgent, because clearly, they can't just keep on hurdling and waiting for another predator to stunned on them, they might not be lucky this time.
"We won't be able to get out of this," Lily cried, her voice shaking, as she search around with her eyes."We're hell stuck. We're trapped can't anyone see that?"
"Don't give up hope, kid," Jonas said, though even him was starting to feel the weight of despair. "There has to be a way out. We just have to find it and you know, burst our way out."
Zilia was quiet, her eyes where still wide with evidence of fear. She knew that Jonas was right - they had to try to find a way out.
But she couldn't really shake the feeling that they were already doomed–of course that was the situation they where now–doomed!
They stood in a circle, their backs pressed together like bananas. Their hands shook as they all gripped their guns, their eyes where still scanning the dark forest for any sign of the wolves.
The air was thick with tension, the silence broken only by their quick, shallow breaths.
Suddenly, a wolf appeared out of the shadows, its yellow eyes glowing in the darkness of the shade of the trees. Their hearts leapt into their throats as the wolf bared its fangs, a low growl rumbling in its chest.
The team raised their guns, but their hands where trembling as they aimed at the wolf, this wolf looks bigger than the first only that it was thinner.
They raised their guns, their hands where still trembling as they aimed at the wolf–six guns on one wolf, that was really serious.
"Remember our training guys.." Jonas said, his voice sounding firm. "No fear. Face the fear and strike the fear."
That was actually a made-up metaphor that Jonas came up with from one of his motivational quotes that he made.
"No fear," they all repeated, their voices still shaky but determined, still they didn't take any action apart from aiming at the wolf.
The wolf snarled and took a step forward, its muscles where tensed, looking ready to pounce on them as they rehears their quotes.
But while they roar repeating the quote, their resolve seemed to faltered at the moment due to fear.
Even their guns where wavering, it was as if the guns themselves where shivering in fear. It was more like the wolf presence alone was overpowering their weapons.
Out of the corner of their eye, they spotted a massive white wolf, its fur glowing like moonlight. It was as if the wolf had been tracking them, as its nose where sniffing the ground, following their scent in which they burst out.
The wolf's eyes locked on them, and it began to move towards them, its gaiting was quite slow and deliberate, they where as hell trapped now, because they where face to face with two extinct predators.
The air was thick with the tension, as the sound of the wolf's paws hitted the ground echoing through the forest.
The team's hearts raced, their breath coming in short, shallow gasps. They held their guns at ready, their eyes now locked on two wolves.
"I-I can't do this. I'm too scared." Lily confessed, her voice still shaking at the pressure of the wolves lurking on them.
"You can do this, kid. Just focus on your breath. Focus on the here and now. Don't think about anything else." Jonas said, as he placed a hand on her shoulder, giving her a pat.
Lily took a deep breath, trying to calm her racing heart as Jonas had suggested. She closed her eyes and focused on the sound of her breathing in a bit to calm her nerves.
Just as she was trying to steady her nerves, another wolf appeared behind them, it was chocolate-brown fur glistening in the rays.
"Alright, let admit that this wolves came for retribution on behalf of their mate who was killed earlier, common what the hell!" Jerry yelled, as he twitch his eyes at the wolves.
It was larger than the first wolf, its muscles rippled beneath its thick coat. Their eyes widened in fear as the wolf bared its fangs, its hackles raised, now it was three predators.
The air was thick with the wolves' growls, their sounds vibrating through the team's bones like an engine.
They stood frozen, their guns where still trembling in their hands like drum sticks, it was somehow better they had drop the guns, because it felt like the guns where about to run away from their hands. They were surrounded, and their options were few, or none, to be precisely.
Lily's fear overtook her, and suddenly, she turned and ran into the bushes, ignoring Jonas's cries for her to stop.
She ran blindly through the undergrowth, branches scratching at her skin and leaves flying into her face.
"AAA" his voice desperate.
"Come back kid! You'll only make things worse!" Jonas yelled, but who would turned back at this stage? Of course you wouldn't one to, Right?
Lily gave no response, to her; that was the only way out of this hell. The only sound was the rustling of the leaves and the pounding of her own heart as she kept leaping like an expert in the forest.
The brown wolf let out a furious howl and charged after Lily, right, it had found who would start the fun–it was Lily.
The wolf paws where pounding the ground as it pursued her through the trees.
Lily ran as fast as she could, her legs where burning with exertion, but the wolf was faster anyway. It was gaining on her, real close, its hot breath on her heels.
Zilia ran towards the brown wolf– chasing her sister, shouting at it to stop, as if it could hear her. But the wolf was intent on reaching Lily, and it kept running.
Zilia knew she had to do something to stop the damn wolf, but she was so terrified. However, she couldn't hesitate but to run after the god-damned wolf.
Then, a shot rang out, and the brown wolf that was after lily howled in pain, it was shot with a sniper. Zilia turned to see Jonas and Mike, their guns where still raised, they both use two sniper on the wolf. While serinal and Jerry kept firing with riffles, driving the other two wolves backward.
The other wolves had been threatening them behind, Jerry and Serinal had to just keep on firing at the god-damned wolves with their rifles. The brown wolf stumbled and fell down, it body went limp immediately.
And then, there was a tense silence in the woods. The only sound now where the rustling of the leaves in the wind and the birds that where flying out from their nest, due to the terror and the deafening sounds of their gun shot.
The wolf that had attempted on chasing lily earlier, layed motionless, its eyes glazed over and it body was still.
Jonas and Mike slowly approached, their guns where still raised. They stood over it, unsure of what to do next.
While everyone else where frozen in shock, Lily was still running as fast as she could.
She had to get away from the wolves, to put as much distance between herself and the danger as possible, as she thought that the wolves where still chasing her.
She ran blindly, not really knowing where she was actually going, her only thought was to escape, Zilia noticing this, immediately sprang up looking for lily in the woods.
The rest ran through the woods too, their footsteps crunching on the fallen leaves looking for lily and zilia now, because zilia had gone ahead of them, it was so fast, it was as if she was sprinter or something, they didn't see her in a twinkle of an eye.
As they kept sprinting the woods, they turned to a corner, and just then, they saw something that made their whole hearts sinked.
Zilia, who had sprinted earlier was found sprawled on the ground, close to where lily was, both of them actually where down.
Another strange brown looking wolf standing over her. And right next to her were three black wolf, their eyes where fixed on them.
The two first wolves were a few feet apart, from where lily and zilia was. They snouts in the air, scenting the air, they don't really look much like a wolf though but they have the features of a wolf.
Jonas, Serinal, Mike and Jerry watched in horror as the wolves began to circle around Zilia and Lily.
The girls huddled together, their eyes wide with fear. They could hear the wolves' growls, low and menacing. The black wolf turned and fixed its gaze on them, its eyes burning with a feral intensity.
